The Golden State Warriors have had a rather anti-climactic end to their 2022-23 NBA season. The defending champions were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs after losing 4-2 against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Although, Golden State was not playing its best basketball. Klay Thompson struggled all postseason and Jordan Poole was cold on the offensive end. However, despite their difficulties, the Warriors managed to push the Lakers as far as they possibly could.

After they were thwarted by the Lakers, many are referring to a pre-season incident that showed cracks in the Warriors’ winning machine. Golden State’s preparation for the 2022-23 NBA season got off to a rocky start. Draymond Green punched Jordan Poole in a practice game. While the Warriors had imposed a fine on the veteran forward no serious action was taken. Poole, on the other hand, had nothing to say about it, until quite recently.

“I don’t have no answer for you,” Jordan Poole told The Ringer when asked where his relationship with Green stands now. “Other than that, we was just on the court and teammates, and we was out there trying to win games.” He further explained the situation, saying, “What I do recall saying at the beginning of the season is that, ‘We’re coming. We’re going to come out here, we’re going to play on the court. We’re going to try to win a championship.’ We were teammates. It’s just business, honestly. And that’s really all it was, it is, it has been. It’s just been business. It’s been basketball.”

He also spoke about the relationship between him and Green before the incident.“He was pretty accepting,” Poole said prior to last season. “He was willing to take me under his arm. I want to say Steph was injured and Klay was out, so out of the big three, Draymond was the person I was around the most.”

Following their success in the 2021-22 NBA season, Golden State Warriors signed Jordan Poole to a four-year, $123 million contract extension. However, his disappointing performance this season has added very little value to the roster. Many fans and critics are predicting that Poole might be traded after his rocky season.

Stephen Curry was asked about Poole’s future as well. Although the two-time MVP didn’t confirm anything, he was candid about not knowing who would return next season. “I don’t know what the opportunity is going to be. I don’t know what the roster will look like. I don’t know what, sitting here right now, what Opening Night is going to look like in terms of who’s going to be asked to do what, but I have a lot of confidence in everybody being able to take advantage of the summer, Curry said.

As of now, there is no confirmation on Jordan Poole’s future with the Warriors. However, it is unlikely that the franchise will trade a young asset after one disappointing postseason. Moreover, the organization would be concerned with Klay Thompson and his form. Needless to say, this offseason would be crucial for them. With fans and critics saying that the Warriors dynasty is over, it will be interesting to see how they come back next season.
