In light of allegations against Oklahoma City Thunder‘s star guard Josh Giddey of being in an alleged relationship with a 15-year-old minor girl from junior high school, the NBA has launched an investigation to get a clearer understanding of the matter at hand. Recent reports suggest that Giddey can potentially lose a sponsorship worth $40 million dollars due to the ongoing investigation by the league.

Sources suggest that the NBA is still in the process of investigating the case and understanding the crux of the matter with the help of the leaked photos and videos that have been circling social media. Giddey has tie-ups with several commercial brands off the basketball floor and it has come to light that the Australian Cereal brand named, Weet-Bix has come out on the front and has reportedly removed posts of Josh Giddey from their social media handles, promoting their product.

Weet Bix’s open move to remove the star guard from their social media handles indicates the company breaking ties with Giddey in light of his alleged relationship with a minor. This situation can cause the guard to lose a sponsorship of $40 million dollars from Weet Bix, which isn’t a good sign at all.

Josh Giddey losing a sponsorship with an enormous contract like that is a big thing for the guard to lose as he is still playing for the OKC on a rookie contract in the league. Giddey was the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft and the 2023-24 NBA season marks his third season in the league and is set to make $6.5 million dollars this year.

The OKC Thunder still has Josh Giddey playing, despite the investigation by NBA

The star guard of the OKC Thunder Josh Giddey is still playing for the team despite the revelation of his recent scandal and an investigation followed up by the NBA. It isn’t something usual to witness an athlete continue playing for the team despite hitting the headlines for the wrong reasons.

Despite that, the OKC Thunder haven’t really given out any official statement relating to Giddey’s investigation and had him up and running for the matchup over the weekend against the Philidelphia 76ers. In light of Giddey’s match with the team against the Sixers, OKC coach Mark Daigneault was questioned about the guard’s investigation and his availability to continue playing in the regular season, to which he said that it’s not even a decision with the information they have at this point.

Mark Daigneault in a media interaction prior to the match against the Sixers said:

Just with the information that we have at this point, that's the decision that we made, it's really not even a decision, to be honest with you.

Josh Giddey in past interviews since the news broke out has declined to comment on the allegations and the ongoing investigation and so has the team.
