Josh Hart had a productive season with the New York Knicks, but he may have gone too far in a recent interview with Taylor Rooks. The 28-year-old guard declared that he is the best rebounder in the league, even though he is only 6’5″ and not very athletic.

Hart compared himself to Russell Westbrook and Luka Doncic, who are both taller and more explosive than him. He also revealed that he is likely to opt out of his player option and enter free agency, where he expects to get a big payday.

Rooks asked Hart if he was the best rebounder in the league. He replied, “For sure.” He went on to add, “Russ [Russell Westbrook] is there obviously. Luka [Doncic] is up there, but I think I am just in terms of [height]. Luka is 6’8”, Russ is 6’5″ and athletic. I’m like 6’4″ or 6’5″. I’m not that athletic.“

While Hart may have loved his time with the Knicks, his future with the team is in doubt. He told Rooks that New York is an “ideal place” for him to re-sign, but he also said that he wants to see what else is out there in free agency. Hart averaged 9.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game for the Knicks this season. He shot 52.9% from the field and 37.2% from the three-point range. He was acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers in a midseason trade.

Hart’s remarks did not impress NBA Twitter, who ridiculed him for his arrogance and lack of self-awareness. Many fans reminded him that he is not even the best rebounder on his own team, let alone the league. Some fans also speculated that Hart was trying to flirt with Rooks, who is a popular sports journalist and broadcaster.

The Knicks have several players who are set to become free agents this summer, including Julius Randle, Derrick Rose, Nerlens Noel, Alec Burks, and Reggie Bullock. They will have to decide who they want to keep and who they can afford to lose.
