Karl-Anthony Towns has a high opinion of himself and his impact on the game of basketball. The Minnesota Timberwolves center recently said that he believes he will be recognized as a game-changer after he hangs up his sneakers.
“I feel like when my time’s up and I retire and I put the shoes up… I feel like there’s going to be people who are going to say that I changed the game,” Towns said on the Pat Bev Podcast, hosted by his former teammate Patrick Beverley. “And I’m going to be very appreciative of that.”
Towns is a three-time All-Star and one of the best shooting big men in NBA history. He averaged 20.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists last season while shooting 49.5 percent from the field and 36.6 percent from beyond the arc.
One of the most prominent voices who called out Towns was Draymond Green, the Golden State Warriors forward who is known for his defense and trash talk. Green tweeted a sarcastic remark at Beverley, suggesting that Towns was delusional for thinking that he changed the game.
“aye @patbev21 when people come on yo show they change the game!!l?!? I’m looking forward to it man” Green tweeted.
Green was not alone in his criticism of Towns. Many other NBA fans also joined in with their jokes and memes, questioning Towns’ legacy and impact.

Towns’ statement did not sit well with many NBA fans, who took to social media to mock him for his lack of achievements and influence on the game. They compared him unfavorably to other elite centers like Nikola Jokić and Joel Embiid, who have been MVP candidates and have led their teams to success.
Some of the reactions included:
Towns may have confidence in his skills and potential, but he may want to back up his words with actions on the court. Otherwise, he will continue to face backlash and ridicule from NBA fans and peers.
