It’s not breaking news that Ben Simmons has not been having a great season so far. Former NBA player and ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins opined that the Brooklyn Nets star should be traded before the trade deadline. Perkins has been highly critical of the limited production the Nets star has shown so far this season. Ben has been averaging 7.6 points per game so far into the season.

Perkins said that while the trade deadline is on the way, KP said that if he was the Nets, would consider trading the All-Star guard. “If I’m the Brooklyn Nets and the trade deadline is on the way, I might consider trading Ben Simmons,” Perkins said on ESPN’s NBA Today. The NBA analyst might be right in assessing the trade scenario for trading their star player. Despite having a bad season, Ben might still be a good asset in the market to bring in a player worth making the Nets a championship contender.

Perkins noted that in the game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Simmons had to sit on the bench while he watched the game in the 4th quarter. He pointed out that the Nets do not trust Simmons on the floor in crunch time. “The simple fact is I’m watching the game late in the fourth quarter last night when it got close and he couldn’t play. You couldn’t put him on the floor,” Perkins fumed

Kendrick Perkins says Ben Simmons cannot play with Nic Claxton and Seth Curry

Upset with the low chemistry between the stars and the preference over other stars like Nic Claxton, Perkins said Simmons is just a backup center. “With the development of Claxton and the way he’s been balling out, you can’t play those two together…  seriously, Seth Curry, he’s balling out, Claxton, he’s doing what he do. You’re paying Ben Simmons top dollar to be, what? A back-up center when Kevin Durant get back?” pondered the former NBA champion.

In the game against the 76ers, the former Rookie of the Year went scoreless in the first half of the game. However, he brought some magic in the third quarter and scored 10 points off of five shots. There are suggestions that head coach Jacque Vaughn considers Simmons a big liability on both ends of the floor, which was highlighted by his decision to bench Simmons in the 4th.

Speaking on his decision to bench Simmons, Vaughn said that he expects every player to take care of the possessions, which led him to bench his guard. “I think overall it’s the message I kind of talked about before the game. We’re going to get every guy, and that’s including Ben [Simmons] to value every possession,” Vaughn said after the game, which the 76ers won 137-133.
