After Nikola Jokic‘s 30-point triple-double helped the Denver Nuggets defeat the league-leading Boston Celtics 123-111 at home, Kendrick Perkins showered the Serbian star with praises. Jokic finished off a stellar game with 12 rebounds and 12 assists.

The two-time MVP notched 20 first-half points, including 14 in the first quarter. He finished with a seemingly effortless triple-double while shooting 10-of-13 from the floor. It was his ninth triple-double of the campaign.

In appreciation of the Nuggets star, Kendrick Perkins tweeted: “Shout out to Jokic on another monster performance and holding it down for all the whack bodies. Speaking of health… 30 wings, 12 biscuits, and 12 apple pies in a big W! Carry the hell on…” Kendrick Perkins’ tweet has added nothing but some more weight to the already heavy MVP campaign of Nikola Jokic. Even though the superstar isn’t getting enough media coverage that doesn’t change the fact of him being one of the best in the business.

Five Nuggets players tallied double-digits in the scoring column. Nikola Jokic led the group with 30 points while Bruce Brown (21 points), Michael Porter Jr. (17 points), Aaron Gordon (18 points), and Bones Hyland (17 points) made key contributions in Denver’s win.

For the Celtics, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum finished with 30 and 25 points, respectively. Derrick White was the only other Boston player in double figures with 13 points. Denver won for the 10th time in 12 games, snapped a six-game skid against Boston, and opened a one-game lead in the Western Conference.

Celtics great Larry Bird from 1984-86 was the last player to win three straight NBA MVP awards. The idea that Jokic couldn’t do the same infuriated Nuggets coach Michael Malone prior to the game. “If people’s reasons for not giving him the MVP is because he’s won two in a row, that’s lazy,” Malone said.

Following yet another great showing against the tough Celtics, the former MVP led the Nuggets past the deadly Tatum-Brown combo and once again showed why he is the front-runner for MVP.

The Nuggets’ Serbian center is teasing with triple-doubles this year and putting up outstanding numbers overall. For the Nuggets this year, Jokic has averaged 25.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 9.5 assists per game. With 1.4 steals per game, he has a 62 percent field goal shooting percentage.

A large number of Celtics fans started chanting “MVP! MVP!” when Tatum went to the foul line late in the second quarter. Nuggets fans loudly returned the favor moments later with their own MVP chant for Jokic when he went to the line. Jokic ultimately proved it would be difficult to wrestle the trophy away from him with the statement win.
