“It’s no disrespect but what are you expecting from that group” Kevin Durant gets brutally honest on a depleted Nets side without Ben Simmons and Kyrie Irving

Kevin Durant

2-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant is one of the best players in the league for the past decade. Since joining The Brooklyn Nets things haven’t been how Durant expected them to be. Although the Brooklyn Nets have been in the news for the past two years, the 2022-23 season so far has been particularly bad for them. From Steve Nash being fired to Kyrie Irving being suspended, Durant is watching every drama unfold while he is hooping. Durant opened up about the situation with the Nets and his trade request in the offseason.

Talking to the Bleacher Report, Kevin Durant got brutally honest about the situation in Brooklyn and their championship expectations. Speaking of the starting lineup with the Nets in absence of Irving and Ben Simmons, Durant said, “Look at our starting lineup. Edmond Sumner, Royce O’Neale, Joe Harris, [Nic] Claxton and me. It’s no disrespect, but what are you expecting from that group?” Joe Harris is one of the top shooters in the league but the rest of the lineup except Durant is comprised of role-player caliber players.

According to Durant, the championship should not be just based on a single superstar like him. The Nets are on a slump right now and expecting them to outperform their opponents by relying on a single star is not justified. “You expect us to win because I’m out there. So if you’re watching from that lens, you’re expecting us to play well because No. 7 is out there”, Kevin Durant said.

However, Kevin Durant likes to play and hoop on a night-in and night-out basis. Several NBA pundits are also expecting Durant to be traded next season from the Brooklyn Nets since he had already requested the trade in the summer. However, Durant also added, “I can play with anybody, anywhere, at any time, and you know I’m going bring it every day. That should be my legacy.”

Sacramento Kings score 153 points against Kevin Durant, Nets in a brutal blowout

It was a hard night on the court for Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday. The game was a complete embarrassment for the Brooklyn Nets. In the blowout loss against the Kings by 32 points, Durant scored 27 points and dropped 6 dimes as well. However, Durant’s efforts weren’t enough to avoid another loss for the Nets after the loss against the Lakers. After the game, Kedrick Perkins called Nets “Dead Bird, Tall Grass.”

Durant and the Nets had no answers for the Kings’ offense, which has been a problem with the Nets since the beginning of the season. 153 points allowed by the Nets on Tuesday is the most ever points allowed in the franchise’s history. Disappointed with the loss, Durant said, “We had great intentions,” Durant said. “They made shots. That’s demoralizing when you see teams making shots. It’s not like we didn’t try. They were better than us.” After their loss against the Kings, the Brooklyn Nets sit in the 12th spot of the Eastern Conference with a 6-9 record. However, it remains to be seen how the Nets’ fortune changes once Kyrie Irving returns to the lineup.
