Kevin Durant Knee Injury: The Brooklyn Nets’ Will Sit Tight as They Anticipate KDs Presence for the Playoffs
Kevin Durant went down on the floor with an apparent knee injury against the Miami Heat. He will go through MRI on Monday. If Durant has a serious injury, it would be devastating for the Nets and their hopes for deep playoff spot.

After having an impressive 12 games winning streak the Brooklyn Nets are among the top teams in the league. Despite registering a last-second win over the Miami Heat, the Nets might have to do for some time without their star player Kevin Durant. Durant was forced out of the game with an apparent knee injury, which is perhaps the Nets’ biggest worry.
The injury took place in the third quarter with over a minute left on the clock when Ben Simmons blocked Jimmy Butler’s shot. When Butler’s shot was blocked he fell awkwardly on Kevin’s knee. KD stayed lying on the floor for seconds in pain and discomfort. Seeing Durant in pain, the Nets’ medical staff rushed to the floor. Irving, who was on the bench also came rushing after seeing the 1 x league MVP in the pain. Eventually, Durant was taken off the floor to the locker room.
After the game, in the postgame press conference, when Irving was asked about Durant he said that the 12 x All-Star was in good spirits. “He’s in good spirits, as we all are,” Irving said. “The strength of our team is us picking each other up and just being ready for whatever is thrown at us.” Head coach Jacque Vaughn said that Durant will get evaluated in New York when they get back. “Just right knee, he’ll get evaluated [in New York] and then hopefully I’ll have some more info for you,” Vaughn said. “Most likely it will include imaging just to make sure we’re good.”

What does Kevin Durant’s injury mean for the Brooklyn Nets?
Losing Kevin for any stretch of time would be catastrophic for the Brooklyn Nets’ hope of making it to the playoff or moving ahead in the playoffs. When he went down with the MCL injury last season, The Nets’ went for a 5-17 record. Without any second opinion, Durant is the Nets’ primary offensive weapon and their answer to the best defense in the league.
Perhaps what has been largely neglected throughout this season is Durant’s defense. In absence of good and certified defensive players, the 2 x NBA Champion had to elevate his defensive presence on the floor. Before he left the game against Miami, Durant averaged 1.5 blocks this season. If the Nets lose Durant for any amount of time, it would not only affect their offense exponentially but also their defense to a larger length.
Durant will go through a further examination and MRI on Monday in New York. The result will decide a big part of the fate of the Brooklyn Nets. But one thing is for sure, without Kevin Durant they are going nowhere.
