“They come from war, bro!” Kevin Garnett checks Paul Pierce on calling European players ‘soft’

Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett

Paul Pierce, the Hall of Famer, played in the league for 19 seasons. The Truth has played against some of the toughest players, including a wide range of players across the world, including the Europeans. Of late, the Europeans have been the highlight of the league. Players like Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo are among the top ten players in the league today, also joined by other international players.

Recently, Pierce called out European players in the league. While most international players are not as aggressive and vocal in-game toward their opponents, fans and critics often perceive European players as ‘soft’ athletes. Kevin Garnett, the Big Ticket came in defense of the Europeans, as he corrected Pierce’s take on them.

Nah, Europeans come from some rela s***. They come from war, bro. They coming from walking to school in the war. Bombs, and all type, I'm being deada** bro. I'm talking about Serbians, I'm talking about Croatians, I'm talking about some of these foreign places... They're soft to the point to where we're saying they're not aggressive... They're aggressive, they're not like pushovers... Now I think, that's what the assumption off...

KG was clear to keep his point, as European players do have the drive to win, and are aggressive when it comes to performing. The current MVP ladder features three Europeans in the top five and a total of four European players in the top ten. It’s safe to say that these players from across the ocean have the talent and are as skillful as the Americans.

Paul Pierce has a different view on European players

As Europe is a profound continent to find the world’s best pastries, Paul Pierce termed them as guys who like pastries. While his comments weren’t as wrong, Pierce might be unaware of the dominance of European players.

The game has changed drastically over the past decade. However, this did not affect players from other countries to adapt to the modern game. To put it into perspective the last time an American player won the MVP award was back in 2018, won by James Harden. Since then, international players have taken over the league.

The Joker and the Greek Freak have both won two MVP titles each. One can say the league is more diverse today, compared to past eras. With the growing talent in Europe, teams have been continuously sending scouts overseas in search of raw talent. With the current growth in place, it is only to wonder how talented the upcoming European players will be.
