Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry swapped their basketballs for golf balls on Thursday night, but the result was not what they hoped for. The Golden State Warriors stars lost to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce in The Match, a charity golf event at The Wynn Golf Club.
However, the worst moment came when Thompson accidentally hit a spectator in the head with his tee shot on the ninth hole. The ball flew into the crowd and struck a man, who collapsed on the grass. Other spectators helped him until the medical staff arrived. TNT, which aired the event, did not give any update on the man’s condition or identity. It is unknown if he was seriously injured or taken to a hospital.
His fellow Warriors, Curry and Draymond Green, couldn’t contain their amusement and burst into laughter at the sight of his teammate’s mishap. Curry came into the night with the highest golfing reputation among the four. He showed his skills from the tee, but he and Thompson struggled on the green. Meanwhile, Kelce delivered some clutch shots that lifted the Chiefs’ duo to victory.

Mahomes and Kelce cruise to victory over Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce dominated Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in The Match 2023, a charity golf event at The Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas. The NFL stars won 3 & 2 in a 12-hole match that was never really close.
Mahomes and Kelce took advantage of their chemistry and golf skills to take an early lead over the NBA stars. They birdied the second and third holes to go 2 UP, while Curry and Thompson struggled to find their rhythm.
The Chiefs duo kept the pressure on, winning two more holes with pars to go 4 UP through six. Curry and Thompson tried to rally, joking that they were a “third-quarter team”, but they could not match the consistency of their opponents. “You’ve never seen me win a blowout,” Mahomes said on the final hole. “I just keep it real close till the end.”
The Match also delivered some drama for sports fans, especially when Thompson’s tee shot injured a fan. Hopefully, the fan is alright and will recover soon.
