“How the cookie crumbles…” Klay Thompson STUNNED as Warriors go 17-17 at home after spectacular 2022 season
The Golden State Warriors have had a pretty up and down 2023-24 NBA season.
Klay Thompson has been coming off the bench lately and has found his rhythm while playing fewer minutes. With Stephen Curry out with an ankle injury, the Warriors are left with scorers like Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, Andrew Wiggins, and Thompson. Following their recent loss against the Spurs, the Warriors are now 33-30 in the West.
The 10th-seeded team seems to have been settled for the upcoming Play-In tournament. Without their primary scorer, the team did show its vulnerability.
Thompson on the other hand wasn’t as worried about the loss, as the best thing the squad could do is focus on the next one. The Warriors performed brilliantly in 2022 with a home record of 33-8. While this year, it’s down to 17-17. Thompson regarding GSW’s home record this season said,
Just how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Few arguments point the finger at the front office. The absence of a reliable scorer besides Steph, lack of size in the paint, and multiple two-way contracts could’ve saved some space for better assets. Apart from that, Thompson’s performance has also been a major problem. Following his return from the Achilles injury, he played his best in the 2022-23 season, averaging great numbers. Compared to now, where the Splash brother is coming off the bench.
The Warriors should use Klay Thompson more often off the bench
While coming off the bench, Thompson is back on track, averaging better numbers. Still, while just getting around 25 minutes of playtime, his production has consistently been better. If the 34-year-old can continue to stay in such a rhythm throughout the majority of the second half, the Dubs can have a much better scoring combination while playing without Steph.
Having a poor home record this year, the Warriors should give more minutes to Thompson and Wiggins, trusting the two veterans to take care of the scoring end alongside younger players, while playing without Curry. This time, being inconsistent on the scoring end, Thompson made up for it after coming off the bench.
It would only make sense to give him more playing time, especially in the second half. The Warriors are in a desperate situation, and now without Steph, their current roster has to manage to win the majority of the games ahead. It will be interesting to see how the Warriors use guys like Kuminga, Podziemski, and Wiggins to get the most out of their offensive talent.
