“Grew a beard and became hard” Kristaps Porzingis gets manhandled only to be thrown on courtside seats by Jaylen McDaniels, fans react

Kristaps Porzingis, Jalen McDaniels

The first quarter of the Washington Wizards versus Charlotte Hornets was temporarily halted by Kristaps Porzingis and Jalen McDaniels’ altercation over a loose ball. On Sunday night, during the game at Washington, Porzingis and McDaniels were involved in a fight that extended to the courtside seats, which the fans thought was funny.

The Hornets traveled to Washington to face the division rival Wizards, but their recent results have been very different. The Wizards had won 5 of their previous 6 games, while the Hornets have lost 12 of their last 14 games.

However, the Wizards managed to prevail and have now won six of their previous seven games, in part because of outstanding performances from Kyle Kuzma and Bradley Beal. Kristaps Porzingis had a contribution to the Wizards as well, although it wasn’t what everyone imagined.

Jalen McDaniels of the Hornets knocked the ball away as Porzingis drove to the basket. Porzingis tied McDaniels’ arm and continued to drag him out of bounds while he wobbled and then, in an odd turn of events, he suddenly encircled Kristaps in his arms and shoved him in the direction of the Wizard’s bench. The coach, players from the Wizards and Hornets, and others got involved to stop the fight.

The officials made the decision to review the play to decide how to handle the fouls once the altercation was effectively resolved. They ultimately came to the conclusion that Porzingis was the perpetrator in their eyes, and they assessed him a technical foul and for his part, McDaniels received a personal foul.

The Wizards edge past the Hornets in an extremely close matchup

On Sunday night, the Washington Wizards defeated the Charlotte Hornets 106-102 behind the performance of Kyle Kuzma, who finished with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists and Bradley Beal added 26 points. All five of Washington’s starting players reached double digits, led by Corey Kispert’s 14 points, followed by Kristaps Porzingis and Deni Avdija’s 12 points each.

The Wizards are now 10-7 after winning six of their last seven games. Beal took a knee to the thigh during the game, and as he walked with a slight limp to the locker room before the game finished, he needed significant treatment.

The Charlotte Hornets, who have lost 11 of their previous 12 games and have a record of 4-14, were led by Kelly Oubre Jr., who finished with 23 points, and Gordon Hayward, who chipped in with 18. For the Hornets, Nick Richards added 11 points and 10 rebounds, while PJ Washington added 13 points.

Charlotte had a two-point lead going into the fourth quarter thanks to Washington’s 18-point third-quarter collapse, but an eight-point surge gave the Wizards a strong lead to start the fourth.

Kristaps Porzingis and Jalen McDaniels’ altercation had fans cracking up on social media

Fans on YouTube had divisive opinions and hilarious ones about the scuffle:

Twitter fans also gave their opinions as well:

Although Porzingis struggled to make shots, he didn’t allow it to affect the way he played defense. He totaled five blocks while guarding the rim while also impacting countless other attempts. The Wizards’ best player this season has been Kristaps Porzingis, who at times seems impossible to guard when working in the high post and shooting over smaller players. Despite the fact that the incident involving McDaniels occurred off the court, Porzingis isn’t hesitant to defend himself and his teammates.
