Kyrie Irving has shied away from success since leaving his buddy LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017. He has yet to be able to make a clear impact, both player and team-wise, as he moved from one team to the other after landing at the Dallas Mavericks mid of the last season.

One such Twitter post highlighted his downfall, to which Irving replied on a very positive note. The post claimed, “Kyrie Irving hasn’t had much success since leaving LeBron James.” Irving, visibly unhappy with this claim of the post, wrote, “Pin this tweet and see what happens in the next few years.” The page talked about him missing playoffs three times in the last six years after going away from the Cavaliers and James.

The duo has been touted as one of the top ones in Basketball history. James joined Irving in the 2014-15 season, post which the pair won the 2016 championship but failed to defend it the following year, losing to the Golden State Warriors. Irving then decided to depart after they lost the finals and has never been the same ever since. The duo’s friendship, though, is still very wholesome.

Since going to three consecutive finals from 2015-2017, Irving has yet to be able to take his team to the highest levels and has missed three playoff series, namely in 2018, 2020, and 2021. The 2018-19 season saw his relationship with the Boston Celtics fall apart. The two following seasons were also injury plagued at the Brooklyn Nets. 2022 saw him refusing the vaccine and having to sit out.

Irving’s reputation as a star player took a hit, as many fans and analysts questioned his reliability, commitment, and trustworthiness. In the offseason, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, where he signed a four-year, $126 million contract extension.

Some fans called him “unreliable” and “untrustworthy” to be in a top team. By his comments, he is all set to correct his image. As Irving plans to win the ring and is determined to do so, it will be interesting to see how he plays along with the generational talent Luka Doncic at the Mavericks. To ensure they turn around their disappointing last season, both Luka and Kyrie must play their A-game.
