The NBA offseason is finally here and teams are not waiting around to make big moves as the Dallas Mavericks are also looking to make a huge splash in the trade market.

The NBA season ended just a few weeks ago and the NBA Draft went by this Thursday, but teams have been aggressively at play in the trade market with teams like the Phoenix Suns trading for Bradley Beal and the Celtics sending away Marcus Smart for Kristaps Porzingis. With how fast teams are moving the Mavericks are also expected to make their moves these coming days.

Reports have surfaced that the team is looking to sign the Nuggets star, Bruce Brown as Dallas have already prepared their cap spaces to receive him: “The Mavericks shed Davis Bertans’ contract “to gain use of the full non-taxpayers’ $12.4 midlevel exception in free agency to pursue top wings in free agency (starting with Denver’s Bruce Brown),”

Bruce Brown is expected to leave the Nuggets as the team can only pay him $8 million at the maximum and a player of his calibre has better opportunity to earn more with a different team.

Although Brown might not be a legitimate star in the League but alongside Doncic, he can be a solid role player and if the Mavericks hopefully re-sign Kyrie Irving the Mavericks can hope to make some noise in the West.

There’s a lot of math involved in the ability of a team to change and resign the players on their roster and the Dallas Mavericks are no exception to that concept as the Mavericks were over the salary cap last season as they had both Kyrie and Doncic on their roster and had to pay luxury taxes.

This season might be a bit different for the organization as the salary cap was raised this season from $149 million to $162 million and the luxury threshold for this season is raised to $165 million. The Mavericks have over $103 million spending on players’ salaries as of now which means that the team have over $60 million left for signing players.

The team can sign Irving for $42 million if he decides to head back with the team and the team have the opportunity to pursue Bruce Brown as he is available for $12 million as the team will still have over $15-$17 million to spare.

The Dallas Mavericks are also left with some cap space left to sign Championship calibre veterans on a minimum contract as the new CBA is easy on the teams that have not entered the luxury tax brackets.
