“I was getting slapped on my left hand” Kyrie Irving says his craft comes natural being ambidextrous
Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving has proved time and again that he is indeed a very special player in the league. His flashy moves, ball handling ability, immaculate shooting, and ability to use both hands effectively allow him to be a prolific scorer in NBA. The Duke prodigy was 1st overall pick for the Cavs, and he proved them just right with his game. Irving always dazzled fans with his Awe-worthy creativity. He quickly earned the crown as one of the most gifted point guards in the league and continued to establish himself in that position.
When closely analyzed, Irving’s ability to use both hands combined with his crafty ball-handling skills makes him difficult to guard star in the league. Many players do possess and use innovative dribbling to take hold of the game, but they are guardable to some extent if forced to switch to a ‘weaker’ hand. But Kyrie’s ability to use both hands equally effectively limits that option to his opponents and he can even make them look silly at the time.
Star point guard made his debut appearance on “The Shop” – where he shared his childhood experiences and reasons for his ambidextrous handles. Kyrie said, “Catholic school didn’t let me stay left-handed. … I was getting slapped on the hand for writing with my left hand. … Both sides of my brain are unlocked if you’re asking.” The “unlocked” brain makes it easier for Kyrie to use the hand he feels most comfortable and suitable in a given situation.
Kyrie Irving has been a superstar performer in his career.
The point guard position has always been a crucial position in the team as team offense generally flows through that position. It helps any team to gain success or an advantage in the game. When organizations have an elite floor general, it gives them a slight edge to control the game. The point guard can dictate the pace of the game, score solo, help other scorers by providing ‘timely’ assists, and also draw fouls from opponents to weaken their defenses. Kyrie Irving clearly ticks all the attributes perfectly.
In addition to all the ‘guards’ attributes, Kyrie is a very efficient scorer also. 7-time All-Star is one of an elite list of players with 50-40-90 production from the floor. This emphasizes his greatness and control over the ball. His simple stats also supports his “superstar” claims as he scored an average of 23 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists for his teams. His playoff performances also remained constant and equivalent to regular season productions.
Along with LeBron James, Kyrie was instrumental in over-throwing 1-3 deficits and winning a title in 2016 for the Cavs. In later phases of his career, he was in news for the wrong reasons. He was brutally targeted by analysts and fans for his “off-court” behaviors and decision-making. But Kyrie didn’t let it affect him in games. Rather he was able to silence them on many occasions when he was on the floor.
MVP awards are the only missing trophies from his cabinet, but Kyrie certainly has the capability to win them in near future.
