Kyrie Irving is an unrestricted free agent and is in no rush to make a decision regarding his career ahead. But unfortunately, with time passing by, his options are getting limited. And the chances of finding him sticking with the Dallas Mavericks are real. NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski believes the star point guard will re-sign with the Mavericks once the free agency ushers in.

Last season was a disappointing one for the Mavericks as they failed to qualify for the playoffs. With Irving and Luka Doncic spearheading the offense, many thought the duo would help them contend for the championship. However, that couldn’t come to fruition. Regardless, as per Wojnarowski, Irving’s chances of taking his talents to another team are low, with re-signing with the Mavericks being his best option.

“The market for Kyrie Irving [in terms of] legitimate places that he would leave Dallas for that makes sense [and] that are available to him [are] extremely limited. Perhaps almost nil. I think the full expectation is that he returns to Dallas,” the renowned NBA insider said.

He further added about the deal Irving wants and the team’s commitment toward their superstar. He said, “The question will be, ‘What kind of a deal does he go back on?’ How many years on a contract? I don’t think the money will be as much of an issue as how many fully guaranteed years there are for Kyrie Irving… It is back in Dallas again. The question will be, ‘How many years is that deal?’ What kind of a commitment do the Mavericks make to Kyrie?”

As Wojnarowski highlights that Irving’s best option is to re-sign with the Mavs, the player himself has hinted towards staying with the team. Weeks ago, reports made rounds on social media saying Irving was trying to recruit LeBron James to join forces with him in Dallas. However, the chances of that materializing are slim to none.

Kyrie Irving wants a long-term deal with a lucrative bag to secure his future in the league. The Mavs own Kyrie Irving’s Bird rights and can offer him a max contract of five years worth $272 million, while he can sign with another team for up to $202 million over four years.

But it won’t be easy for Irving to bag the best deal as teams might use his unavailability and off-court issues against him. Whether the point guard will stay put in Dallas or sign with another team is something only time will. It’ll be interesting to see what the future has in store for Irving.
