LeBron James is the king for a reason, as his worn jersey from Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals just broke a record by selling for $3.7 million. The remarkable piece of history became Bron’s most expensive game-worn jersey to date when Sotheby’s revealed the final selling price for it on Friday morning.

LeBron James wore this #6 jersey in the Miami Heat’s 98-88 victory over the San Antonio Spurs to win his second championship. Being the first Game 7 of his NBA career and winning his second NBA Finals MVP award made it a memorable night for James.

This LeBron James jersey was one of the highest prices obtained for any game-worn jersey on the open market. It sold for $3,680,000 at the auction, making it the third most expensive game-worn jersey ever sold at Sotheby’s.

According to Sotheby’s, a private collector bought it, as reported by TMZ Sports.“Today’s tremendous result comes at a pivotal time in LeBron James’ career, where he is in arm’s reach of clenching the all-time points record one of the NBA’s most revered accolades,” Sotheby’s officials said on Friday.

With 38,230 career points going into Saturday’s away game against the Boston Celtics, James is just 158 points shy of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 38,387. James will need to perform in six more games if he continues this season’s pace in order to surpass Abdul-Jabbar.

The King is predicted to surpass Abdul-Jabbar when the Lakers play the Oklahoma City Thunder on February 7 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, assuming he doesn’t miss any games. This season, James is averaging 29.9 points per game.

In fewer games and with a higher career scoring average than Abdul-Jabbar, James is on pace to shatter the mark. James has a 27.2 scoring average in 1,405 games played over the course of his 20-year career. In 1,560 games spanning 20 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks, Abdul-Jabbar averaged 24.6 points.

LeBron James has a significant lead over Abdul-Jabbar because of his early start and ability to make three-point shots. At the age of 22, in 1969, Abdul-Jabbar made his NBA debut after playing four seasons at UCLA. In 2003, The King entered the NBA straight out of high school and made his NBA debut at the age of 18.
