Remember that Celtics vs Lakers game back in January?? yeah, that game where LeBron caused an uproar against the refs after losing on a missed call by the refs. The missed call was blown into such a big deal that even the official NBA referees account issued an apology statement. The missed call also gave birth to the legendary Patrick Beverly meme where he showed the footage to the referee and then got a technical foul.

A few months after the incident fans found out that referee (Eric Lewis) is a die-hard Celtics fan, the news was uncovered after his wife and kids were seen with Celtics jerseys on Twitter and was accused of rigging games for the Celtics. The real case started after the NBA launched an investigation on Eric Lewis as he is accused of using a burner account on Twitter to clap back at fans.

News soon spread that a Twitter account by the name of @CuttliffBlair is actually the burner account of Referee Eric Lewis after some fans on Twitter did their own investigation before the NBA noticed anything suspicious. The account was seen to have tweeted several times in defense of referees and missed calls during games. This incident might prove fatal for the referee’s career as it is highly unethical for a league official to be involved in these kinds of mess.

This incident caught the attention of the Lakers superstar LeBron James as he tweeted: “This Eric Lewis (poop emoji) true … ???,” who was probably connecting the January incident to this recent scandal.

How did Twitter find out Eric Lewis’s BURNER account?

The reason why the NBA is launching the investigation in the first place can be attributed to some Twitter detectives allegedly noticing that a burner account by the name of ” Blair Cutliff” was linked to the referee.

The users first thought that the account was just a troll account but things get nutty when people made the connection that “Blair” is his wife’s maiden name and was seen defending himself on Tweets that criticize officiating on the games on which he officiated.

The burning point was tipped over when the user @PabloEscoburner posted a 3-minute montage of threads of Eric Lewis’s burner replying to people defending himself on a number of posts/threads. The account @CuttliffBlair replied to the alleged post claiming that he is not “Eric Lewis” but rather claimed to be his brother “Mark Lewis” Twitter though didn’t believe in any of this and continued to troll Eric Lewis.

The case is still under investigation by the NBA but it is very likely that the referee will be suspended as of now as several players like Patrick Beverly has joined in on trolling the alleged burner account user.
