Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James was among the first people to respond to the recently released video of Tyre Nichols’ fatal arrest. Three days after being pummeled by five Memphis Police officers, a 29-year-old man who was unarmed died. Yesterday, all five Memphis Police officers were charged with second-degree murder. The video shows Nichols being chased down, attacked, and then pepper sprayed. Later, they are seen boasting about punching him.

For those who are unaware, Nichols was pulled over for careless driving, which led to the original altercation. A second incident ensued as police pursued Nichols after he escaped on foot and detained him. Later, he reported having trouble breathing, which is why he was rushed to the hospital. Although no official reason for his passing was given, it should be noted that he was severely assaulted based on the films made public and the hospital images.

LeBron James reacted to a news journalist who said, “What’s really clear about some of the reaction to the murder of Tyre Nichols is that we’ve failed to fully understand race and it’s construction as a *systemic tool.* The entire system of policing sees the Black body as a problem. No matter who pulls the trigger.”  James said “Too factual” and in a second tweet said, “We are our own worse enemies
