Lonnie Walker IV, who is the third highest scorer behind Bron and AD, was a victim of s*xual harassment, r*pe
Lonnie Walker IV
Lonnie Walker IV has been a savior for the Los Angeles Lakers and has silenced everyone who doubted him when he signed with the Hollywood-based team. The young guard has always been a fighter and now has finally cemented himself a spot with one of the best franchises in the league ever. But life wasn’t easy for Lonnie Walker IV and he had to fight his way out to the league.
Lonnie Walker IV was a victim of s*xual harassment and r*pe as a child (was in 5th grade) by a family member of his. The trademark hairstyle he had during his days with the San Antonio Spurs, where his locks were always on the discussion table is also a part of his unfortunate story. Walker has been growing his hair since fifth grade as that was a “cloaking device” for him against the harassment he was dealing with.
In June 2020, during the lockdown, Lonnie Walker IV revealed his hurting story to the world via a post on Instagram. And, while doing so he also cut his hair to get out with a fresh start mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually as the caption revealed.
Lonnie Walker IV talking about the abuses he had to go through while being a child and him not cutting his hair wrote: “I was sexually harassed, raped, abused, I even got accustomed to it because being at that age you don’t know what is what. I was a gullible curious kid that didn’t know what the real world was. I had a mindset that my hair was something that I can control. My hair was what I can make and create and be mine. And it gave my confidence.“
Further, Lonnie Walker IV mentioned: “Me cutting my hair was more than a cut. My hair was a mask of me hiding the insecurity’s that I felt the world wasn’t ready for. But now better then ever. Out with old. In with the new. I have shed my skin mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Life will always be hard. Gotta play with the cards your dealt with and try and make a winning hand. And if you lose. It’s never a lost. It’s a lesson ??.”
The Lockdown helped Lonnie to get away from his past trauma and step out with a new start. He was hiding his story for years but as stated by him how he truly came to know himself and found peace on the journey he was, made him reveal it. As of now, Walker IV is happy, improved, learning and balling out with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Can Lonnie Walker IV lead the Los Angeles Lakers across?
The Los Angeles Lakers right now are balling out and are on the track towards getting back into the contender’s conversation. Most of this has been possible because of Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. As they have stepped up big with their new roles and LeBron James has been doing a little bit of everything to help his team land on the fortunate winning end.
But let’s not forget Lonnie Walker IV who has stepped up every time the team needed someone to hand out a performance. He has been great on the supporting end while backing up LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The young guard this season is averaging 16.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks per game.
The Lakers right now are ranked at the 13th spot in the Western Conference with the record of 10 wins and 14 losses. The team needs someone to fill up the space for Bron and AD whenever they aren’t on the court. Lonnie Walker can be a solid option for that as he is already just behind them in terms of scoring. But he still has to make some major improvements and keep balling out at the same pace and role he is on.
