“He was supposed to get the ball” Marcus Smart appears to call out teammate after Bucks steal Game 5 with wild play

Marcus Smart denied by Jrue Holiday

Marcus Smart and Boston Celtics thought they had the game in their pocket. Enter Giannis and Holiday to steal the game from under their nose. On Wednesday night, the series might have finally tipped heavily in favor of the Bucks, as they managed to a 13-point deficit in the final nine minutes and change to defeat the Celtics, 110-107 in Boston. There’s no shortage of blame to go around for Boston’s struggles down the stretch, but whoever runs the official Twitter account of the Bucks seemed to zero in on a specific target in Marcus Smart.

The Milwaukee Bucks point guard, Holiday came up with a crucial, game defining block on a Marcus Smart layup attempt in the dying moments and stripped him on Boston’s next possession, helping Milwaukee win 110-107 and grab a vital Game 5 on the road.

Marcus Smart mentioned that the play coming out of the timeout was for the ball to go to Jayson Tatum.

“Everyone was standing around. They were getting close on the five-second count and we had no timeouts. Jrue made a great play,” Smart said Pat Connaughton sank two free throws to make the score 110-107 meanwhile, Boston still had one last hope. Smart took the inbounds pass from under his basket but Holiday was there again as he stole the ball from him and ran out the clock.

This was how twitter reacted to this epic encounter.

The irony of the whole situation is that Smart won Defensive Player of the Year. But many people have been saying for quite a while now, that Holiday is one the best if not best defensive player. Nothing will take away the fact that Milwaukee earned this victory. Every loose ball seemed to go the Bucks way. Milwaukee had an astounding 17 offensive rebounds, to just five for Boston.

I was supposed to come off the pin-down from Al, Yeah, that was a little miscommunication. I guess the play broke down and Smart drove baseline. Jrue Holiday made a good play at the rim. It’s as simple as that.” Tatum said. The Celtics stare at elimination by the hands of the Bucks after what was, an ‘epic meltdown’ on their part, letting a 14-point lead slip. Will Bucks make it consecutive conference Finals or is there some drama still that Boston need to deliver, Game 6 will be “legen-dary”.
