The owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban, made a surprising decision. He has reportedly agreed to sell his majority stake in the team to Miriam Adelson. She is the billionaire widow and largest shareholder of the Las Vegas Sands. The $3.5 billion deal includes Cuban retaining his position as Governor. This allows him to continue overseeing the team’s operations and representing the Mavericks at NBA owner meetings.

As the widow of the late billionaire Sheldon Adelson, Miriam Adelson owns the Las Vegas Sands. It is a casino company she inherited following her husband’s passing. Reportedly the fifth richest woman in America, she boasts a substantial net worth of $32.8 billion.

Having acquired a majority stake in the Mavericks from Ross Perot Jnr. for $285 million in 2000, Mark Cuban, the prominent figure of the team, distinguishes himself by attending Mavericks games among fans rather than in exclusive VIP boxes.

During his ownership, Mark Cuban elevated the team’s regular-season winning percentage to 69% and guided them to the playoffs nine times, boasting a playoff record of 49-57. Notably, the pinnacle of his success came in 2011 when the Mavericks secured the NBA championship in a triumphant victory over the LeBron James-led Miami Heat, marking a memorable rematch from the 2006 finals, which the Heat had previously won.
