Matt Barnes spat on his fiancee’s ex in a heated argument at the Cowboys vs. 49ers game on Sunday. Despite the reports of him spitting on the person concerned, the former Golden State Warriors player says that he was threatened and shoved by the person. According to TMZ Sports reports, the incident took place around 3.40 PM on Sunday. The NFL playoffs were about to begin at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. When Barnes encountered his fiancee’s former husband, David Patterson Jr. on the concourse.
The footage captured shows that the former NBA player sprayed the man with spit, before getting into his face. What followed was the random exchange of words and perhaps got into a wrestling match before they were separated. Later, both parties walked in different directions.
Barnes later filed for a temporary civil restraining order against Patterson Jr. alleging that he was the aggressor. According to the documents obtained by TMZ, the ESPN analyst has said that the man “hunted me down and aggressively confronted me.” The court documents also say that Barnes has alleged that his fiancee’s ex-husband called him bad names and incited a large crowd against him “into a frenzy by yelling out my full name repeatedly.”

Matt Barnes says that Patterson Jr. has been threatening him for months
As per the TRO request, Barnes has alleged that Patterson has been harassing and threatening him for months, because of jealousy. He said that the man “is jealous of my relationship with his ex-wife.” Additionally, he also notified that in 2022, at one incident, the ex-husband of his fiancee also threatened to shoot him with his gun. Barnes has requested the court to restrict Patterson Jr. from coming within 100 yards of him.
The report says, Barnes confronted that the man pushed him after getting the crowd around him. The former Dubs player said, he “shoved me, and I was forced to push him off of me.” He also added that he didn’t want the altercation and after repeatedly being harassed he spit on him. “I did not want the altercation to physically escalate further, and out of frustration with him seeking me out and his unrelenting repeated harassment I spit in his direction in disgust, ” said Barnes.
According to the information given by the cops, they were called to the scene to investigate and they said that the 42-year-old, who calls himself a victim, is the suspect. The investigation is still going. Barnes played three seasons with the Warriors in the Bay Area. he seemed to be in good spirits as he watched the game from the suite seats. The 49ers defeated the Cowboys by 19-12.
