“KD wants Kyrie OUT” Max Kellerman urges how Kevin Durant doesn’t have the ‘don’t want you here’ relationship with Kyrie Irving
Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving
Brooklyn Nets are in a very different situation right now. They do have two of the top-10 scorers in the modern-day league available on the roster, but they are not eager to play. While one of them is very hard to trade, the Nets are stuck with the other one. Brooklyn is prioritizing Kevin Durant’s trade to get maximum returns out of it. Subsequently they want to deal with Kyrie Irving’s situation urgently as well. But KD’s trade value is somewhat off-putting for other teams, and he is still with the Nets. While talks have calmed down some, the saga between Durant and the Nets is still one of the biggest topics in basketball.
So as for Kevin Durant, he formally requested a trade back on 30th June a day before free agency trades would begin. That changed many team’s plans. KD also listed the Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns as two of his desired landing spots. Failing to land in either of the teams, Durant still remains at the Nets, and training camps are scheduled from the month of Aug.
More importantly, Durant’s trade request was a shocker, considering he recently signed a 4-year extension with the franchise. But uncertainty over Kyrie’s future and recent results are said to be the main reasons for KD’s request. There are rumors that he simply no longer wants to play alongside Kyrie Irving.
During a recent episode of ESPN’s ‘KJM,’ Max Kellerman proposed an idea regarding the situation. He said that Kevin Durant requested a trade from Brooklyn because he could not face Kyrie Irving and admitted he wants to split up their duo. The two are good friends off the court and signed with the Nets because they wanted to join forces.
“Maybe he really just wanted to get rid of Kyrie, and they have the kind of relationship where he can’t look Kyrie in the eye and say ‘Kyrie I don’t want you to be here.’ So he has to go about it another way.”
Kevin Durant looks frustrated at the Brooklyn Nets
Kevin Durant is without any doubt one of the top 5 players in the league right now. Even though he was nursing his injuries, the Nets opted to keep him on the roster, trusting his capabilities upon his return. 4-time Scoring champion was fresh from the championship run with the Warriors and also had 2-finals MVP awards to support his claims to be one of the best players in the league.
It was also reported that Steve Nash was chosen upon KD’s approval, and that helped the former OKC star to settle well in the franchise, with his buddy Kyrie Irving. The team looked solid on paper and were taunted as favorites to win the 1st ever Championship for the Nets.
But after the pandemic period, Kyrie’s refusal to take vaccination limited his availability for the team, and KD alone took the load of carrying the team to the playoffs. Still, that wasn’t enough that the Nets traded for another megastar and MVP James Harden to solidify their position in the league.
But things didn’t work well as plotted by the Nets. Kyrie’s behavior created internal issues at the franchise, with many players including Harden expressing their dissatisfaction with the former NBA Champion. Harden finally departed to the Philly and the Nets were stuck again with a player unavailable for a complete season – Ben Simmons.
The results were also not very cheerful as the Nets managed to win just 1 payoff series in 3 seasons with KD and Kyrie on their roaster. Toxic environment, Kyrie’s approach to the game, and many people refusing to commit to the franchise finally frustrated Kevin Durant, who experience exact opposite situations at the Warriors.
Well, Durant might have expressed a desire to leave, but his hefty trade value is keeping many teams at bay, and we might see KD again at the media center of the world.
