Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon has been making waves in the NBA Finals as he takes on the challenge of guarding some of the league’s top players. The 27-year-old power forward expressed his pride in successfully defending stars like Karl-Anthony Towns, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and his finals opponent, Jimmy Butler.

After the Nuggets secured a 104-93 victory in their recent game against the Miami Heat, Gordon humorously remarked about being able to “lock up” LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Jimmy Butler. His defensive ability has been on full display throughout the postseason, and Gordon is enjoying the opportunity to compete against the best.

The forward discussed how he will tell stories to his children about defensively locking up these great players. “Definitely gonna be sitting my rocking chair when I’m 79 or 90 years old and talking to my kids about, “yeah, back in the day, I locked these guys up.”

Gordon’s contributions to the Nuggets’ success cannot be understated. Acquired in a midseason trade in March 2021, he quickly established himself as an important part of the team. Prior to this year’s playoff run, Gordon was primarily known for his impressive performances in the Slam Dunk Contest, where he narrowly missed out on the title twice.

However, the 6-foot-8 forward’s focus has shifted towards his defensive responsibilities and accepting his role within the team. Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets’ star center, praised Gordon’s commitment to his role, describing it as the best thing he has ever done. Alongside his defensive duties, Gordon has also become the perfect rim-runner for Jokic’s exceptional passing abilities, resulting in easy baskets for the team.

While Aaron Gordon’s defensive abilities have gained him recognition and respect within the basketball community, his recent comment, which includes LeBron James has sparked some controversy on Twitter.

One user wrote, “That mile high air getting to your brain,” Another user wrote, “Congratulations u guarded a 38 year old Lebron and he still averaged 28,9,10.. u didn’t lock up nothing.”

Following the comment, numerous fans took to the platform to express their discontent and criticize Gordon. Some fans accused him of being arrogant. Others pointed out that while Gordon may have had success guarding James, it does not diminish James’ overall greatness and impact on the court.

While opinions on social media can be disagreeable, it is clear that Aaron Gordon’s defensive efforts have garnered attention and sparked discussions among fans. As the NBA Finals continue, it remains to be seen if Gordon can continue to back up his bold claims on the court.
