“This is your WORST nightmare” NBA Analyst asserts how badly Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons could take over the league
Brooklyn Nets
Kevin Durant hasn’t played his last game for the Nets, it turns out. Almost two months after Kevin Durant’s trade request became public, the Nets recently issued a statement on stating that they had spoken with the 12-time All-Star and “agreed to go ahead with our collaboration. Kevin Durant, in other words, is no longer available for the taking. “We are concentrating on basketball with one common aim in mind: to construct a long-lasting organisation that will bring a championship to Brooklyn,” the statement added.
It’s another stop on Brooklyn’s tumultuous offseason voyage. While Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving grabbed the headlines, the Nets went about their business in free agency discreetly. They not only re-signed Patty Mills and Nic Claxton, but also added T.J Warren and Royce O’Neale in a trade with the Jazz. The end result? Perhaps the Nets’ finest team since Durant and Irving decided to go to Brooklyn.
Brooklyn Nets’ dream team with Kevin Durant staying back
In the coming season, the Nets have the potential to be very good. They’ll only go as far as Kevin Durant and Irving can lead them, but the front staff has surrounded the explosive tandem with the ideal mix of talent. Seth Curry, Joe Harris, and Mills are three of the NBA’s finest shooters. O’Neale provides the Nets with a much-needed three-and-d wing. Warren was a natural scorer prior to injuries that kept him out for nearly two seasons.
The Nets also have Ben Simmons, who is expected to be ready for training camp after undergoing back surgery. What Simmons version will the Nets get? Time will tell, but he has the potential to slide in alongside Durant and Irving quite well. He provides the Nets with a real defensive stopper against point guards, shooting guards, small forwards, and power forwards.
It should be noted that Simmons finished runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year in 2020-21. He’s incredibly disruptive and might be the league’s most versatile defender. His offensive fit isn’t as obvious, but he’ll offer the Nets a lift in transition and might flourish in a Draymond Green-like position with Durant and Irving.
With Durant and Irving back on board, the Nets have the following depth chart heading into the 2022-23 season:
- PG: Kyrie Irving, Patty Mills
- SG: Royce O’Neale, Seth Curry, Cam Thomas
- SF: Kevin Durant, Joe Harris, Kessler Edwards
- PF: Ben Simmons, T.J. Warren
- C: Nic Claxton, Day’Ron Sharpe
Sure , they’re weak at centre, but with Durant and Simmons at the four and five, they’re constructed to play a lot of small ball. Those lineups have the potential to be absolutely lethal with Irving and two shooters surrounding them.
Experts’ take on the team
Mike Greenberg of ESPN shared his take on the current Brooklyn roster he said “I’m going to tell you what’s going to happen they’re going to be great this is your worst nightmare happening here because Kevin Durant kyrie Irving and ben Simmons are each individually highly motivated Kevin Durant because when you cut through all of the other nonsense that goes with him, he’s one of the greatest players that ever lived and burns to be great.
“Kyrie Irving has every reason in the world to show up and play every single day because he’s never going to get paid anywhere near what he genuinely deserves or what his talent would suggest he is worth if he doesn’t go out there and play every single day. Simmons i think has to ben Simmons is a guy who is i think has put himself in some serious jeopardy of the whole world forgetting that he’s like an all-NBA calibre player no one talks about him that way anymore but that’s how good he is so they are going to be motivated they’re going to be together I think the nets are a legitimate championship contender as currently constituted”
