“It’s like the reality shows my wife watches” NBA analyst disappointed that the off-court antics are part of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving’s resume
Marc Spears on Uncertainty over Brooklyn Nets after Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving's possible exit
The 2022 NBA offseason has been ruled by Brooklyn Nets. It was more of their early exit from the postseason and subsequently players not wanting to be part of the Organization. Led by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving trade rumors Nets even had a change of personnel in their coaching staff. Trade rumors are very normal in the world of NBA, but there were very few high-profile trades at the same time around a single franchise, and that too dragged for so long. With all the resulting bad press, Marc J Spears is disappointed that this will be included in the resumes of two of the league’s best offensive players and hamper their legacies.
Ever since Nets signed Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, it’s been a rollercoaster ride for them. The franchised based at the media center of the world faced huge backlash following their Failure to win anything concrete with 2 of the top 10 players on their team. From title contenders to exit in the very 1st round in 4 games was highly disappointing. And then to top it all, players demanding trade away from the franchise hampers their image in the league too.
After Kevin Durant’s request and Kyrie’s uncertain future, the Nets have been trying to trade Durant since the start of free agency. Although there have been several suitors, none have met Brooklyn’s massive valuation, keeping KD with the Nets as of now. And for Kyrie Irving also, the team was reluctant to hand him a multi-year contract, forcing him to check the water in the market. But failing to lure any franchise, Kyrie also opted to play for Black and White.
Though Irving had a close call with the LA Lakers, there were many ifs and buts in the deal. Now, recent reports saying that the Lakers are now willing to include a second first-round draft pick, Irving might play for the Purple and Gold next season – which was a huge question mark earlier in July.
Talking about the uncertain nature and dramatic changes in scenarios, Marc Spears could not hide his disappointment with the negative attention following KD and Irving. Talking on “The Hoop Collective,” show, Spears said, “I hate that this is part of his resume for him, man, and this is part of Kyrie’s resume, like, because they’re two great basketball players. We haven’t talked nothing about KD’s jump shot or his ability to be unstoppable or Kyrie’s dribbling skills.”
Poking fun at the situation, Spears added, “And it’s like the reality shows my wife watches, man. That’s what this feels like, people. Like, I just waiting for somebody to throw a drink on somebody.”
Although it has been very unpleasant so far, it might get messier. 12-time All-Star Durant has given the Nets an ultimatum and his demands seem very much a sign of a “not staying for sure” attitude from the star player.
Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Brooklyn Nets can amend the situation in the 2023 season.
Brooklyn Nets were trying hard to take maximum possible returns for Kevin Durant if he is to be traded. Rightly so, as it would keep their Championship aspirations alive, given the fact that they still have very good players to play with, even if KD moves. And if they can keep 2–time NBA Champion, I would be another run at the Championship with their core.
Chances were bright that the Nets would have their “seven-eleven” pair playing for them in 2023. Many are excited about the prospect of the Brooklyn Nets with a healthy Ben Simmons and his paring with the dynamic duo of KD and Kyrie Irving. Simmons has not played since joining Brooklyn at the trade deadline in February. With a full recovery from his back injury, he provides a significant boost.
Although they could become one of the league’s best offensive teams with KD, Kyrie, Joe Harris, and Seth Curry playing together, KD’s ultimatum makes the possibility unlikely. But if he stays with the Nets and gives the franchise 1 more season t check whether they can deliver what was expected of them, it would be a fitting reply to all the negative comments and negativity around the Nets.
