“Anything is possible except that” NBA insider disregards all claims of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant reuniting
Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant
The Los Angeles Lakers are involved in a lot of off-season trades. It was rumored that Los Angeles Lakers are in talks with Indiana Pacers to trade to get Buddy Hield and Myles Turner for Russell Westbrook. However, the move was not completed as the Lakers were trying to get the services of Kyrie Irving. Reportedly, LeBron James wanted the Lakers to go after his former teammate Irving to better their chances of winning this season.
However, Brooklyn Nets seem to be disinterested in this Irving-Westbrook trade. But the rumors that the Lakers have assured LeBron that they will include the team’s two future first-round picks to get the Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving. But the Nets are looking for a win-now exchange for Uncle Drew. This clearly says that they won’t ride with Brodie when KD is already on the wheels and unhappy with the team. The Nets bringing in Russell Westbrook for Kyrie Irving can really have KD bouncing out as the duo already has some history and won’t really like to be a pair right now. Even on ESPN’s NBA Today, analyst Tim MacMohan in some way denied the trade by saying, “Anything is possible except for a KD, Russ reunion. Stop it!”. He isn’t all wrong with his take right now and everything depends upon KD’s future in the league.
Moreover, everyone knew that Russell Westbrook was a big reason why Kevin Durant left Oklahoma, and Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai could certainly do without any more drama among his superstars. However, sources stated that Kevin Durant wanted out with Kyrie Irving in the Nets line-up. The KD and Westbrook partnership didn’t result in any championship, and it is less likely that they won’t deliver one at this stage in Russell’s career. So far, he has had his worst season with the Lakers in over a decade. Although everyone knows he is still a capable player, it’s highly doubtful the Nets will put up their hopes on Russell Westbrook to lead them to the championship.
Are the Los Angeles Lakers comfortable working with Russell Westbrook if he isn’t traded?
LA Lakers are trying to trade Russell to find a much better fit for the team, but the Lakers Head coach Darvin Ham has rated Westbrook highly and says that they are ready to start the new season with him still on the rooster. It is also rumored that the coach has been given the power to substitute him whenever required. But the Lakers will be eager to run their offense through Anthony Davis.
