The month of September begins with the Cleveland Cavaliers acquiring Donovan Mitchell which for most people seems to have come out of nowhere. The deal sends Donovan Mitchell to Cleveland and in return, The Utah Jazz receives Colin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen and Ochai Agbaji, three unprotected first-round picks, and two pick swaps in 2026 and 2028.
For the most part of the off-season, New York seemed like the new home for Mitchell, with the knicks actively pursuing Spida and him too showing interest. But as Woj reported the point guard would be headed to Cleveland instead. Talking about the Cavs, he believed the team had become a threat and was now “a force in the Eastern Conference and beyond.”
He expanded, “This is a team that may have as many as four All-Star calibre players and they’re young. [They’re] not only going to be really good now, but they are also built to be really good for a very long time.”
He further added, “I know that he was really enthusiastic [Thursday] night when he talked to the Cavaliers, started to talk to his new teammates, and saw like everyone else does — just how deep, how talented, how good this team is going to be.” So while it seems, The Knicks and Mitchell are not a bond we are going to see, Donovan Mitchell in a Cavs uniform is something the fans in Ohio are happy about and cannot wait to see him in action.
The Trade Between Cleveland and Utah
With the trade, the landscape of the Eastern Conference has changed drastically. While it is to be noted that teams like Milwaukee, Brooklyn and Boston are also fully stacked teams with the potential to go far into the playoffs this season. With Jarett Allen, Darius Garland and now with Donovan Mitchell added to the mix, The Cavs have also become significant contenders in the East.
Looking at the trade, both of the teams have come out to be winners, While the Cavs immediately add a strong point guard onto to their roster and coupled with the all-star players and the strong role players present. The Mitchell-led Cavs will be formidable and while Utah right now might suffer. They have gotten younger but are still strong with the new additions of guards of Colin Sexton and Ogachi Agbaji and forward Lauri Markannen. The Jazz receiving major assets in the form of first-round picks and the ability to swap picks has added to their arsenal in their rebuilding process.
