Paolo Banchero had a blast at the Miami Grand Prix 2023, but it wasn’t his first time at the event. The Orlando Magic rookie was there last year too when he had a memorable encounter with Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle.

Brundle, who was interviewing celebrities at the race, mistook Banchero for Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs. He asked him about his favourite driver and his opinion on the race, but Banchero quickly set him straight and told him his name.

Brundle was embarrassed and apologized for his error, while Banchero laughed it off and walked away. The whole scene was caught on camera and went viral on social media, with fans making fun of Brundle’s blunder and Banchero’s good sportsmanship.

But this year, when they met again, Brundle opened up with, “I’ve found Paolo Banchero. I found him last year. I just didn’t get the name right in the beginning; what a year you’ve had since you made me infamous!,” to which Banchero replied with, “It’s been a hell of a year, and I’m honoured that you know my name now man.

The official Twitter handle of F1 Miami GP (@f1miami) also took a dig at Brundle this time around, where they tweeted, “no, this is (not) Patrick @MBrundleF1”

Sergio Perez delivered a brilliant performance to secure pole position for the Miami GP, edging out Fernando Alonso by a hair. The Red Bull driver will lead the grid, followed by the Aston Martin veteran, who surprised everyone with his speed. Carlos Sainz made it a Spanish double by taking third place in his Ferrari. Kevin Magnussen was the star of the show, though, as he put his Haas in an incredible fourth spot, the best qualifying result ever for the American outfit.
