“Screaming lock that thug up” – NBA Twitter BERATES Brittney Griner’s first home game announcement

Brittney Griner has been one of the most talked about personalities in the basketball realm. Griner’s return to the Phoenix Mercury has many fans excited as they hope the team can make another run to the WNBA Finals. The former star helped the franchise win its third title in 2014 and has averaged 17.7 points and 7.6 rebounds during her nine-year career. She was runner-up for Most Valuable Player in 2021.

Griner played Mercury’s second pre-season game on May 12th (US), making it her first since her release. However, the center will officially play her first regular season game later in the month as Phoenix takes on Los Angeles Sparks. While the franchise is excited to welcome its star back, preparations are in full flow. Moreover, Wyclef Jean will be performing Bob Marley’s “One Love” at halftime to honor Brittney Griner.

In February 2022, Griner was arrested on charges related to drugs and was detained for a 10-month period. Her detention time was predominantly served in prison. Her arrest also unfolded during the Russian invasion of Ukraine and escalated tensions between the United States and Russia. After all, the arrest of an eight-time WNBA All-Star was bound to be quite an issue for the White House. However, she was released in December 2022 and has made several public appearances since then.

Although the eight-time WNBA all-star is all set to return to the league, not a lot of fans are excited about her return. While the league prepares to celebrate, fans are questioning what exactly they are supposed to rejoice for. The Phoenix Mercury won both their pre-season games comfortably and are now preparing for the regular season. They will take on the Los Angeles Sparks on May 20th (US). Griner will look to redeem herself and put up stellar performances for her side.
