Patrick Beverley backs James Harden

James Harden’s ability of cooking 3’s is gradually ‘fading’ away, as was witnessed during his dismal performance against Miami Heat in the playoffs. Jimmy Butler dropped 32 points and waved ”bye bye” to the Philly crowd as he sent Miami into the Eastern Conference finals with a 99-90 victory over Philadelphia on Thursday night in Game 6. While every second analyst or former player is blatantly targeting James Harden for his poor performance in the 2022 playoffs, Patrick Beverley supports his former teammate. He expects Philadelphia to agree to all the terms with him to keep the “talented” stars happy.

Harden was supposed to be the ‘Chosen One’ , the missing piece of the Brooklyn Nets puzzle. He ultimately wanted out of Brooklyn after just one season and then failed to live up to expectations in Philly. His move to Philadelphia did him no good as Sixers were declined in the semifinals by Jimmy Buttler’s Miami Heat, winning the series 4-2. While the valiant attempts of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey were applauded, James Harden was targeted for his approach in the game.

He was terrible with his shooting efficiency and also he made fewer attempts. The difference between James Harden in a Philly jersey and one in a Rockets Jersey was crystal clear, and calamitic at the same time. Harden started Game 6 brilliantly, but was silenced in the second half and finished with just 11 points on 9 attempts on the night. He also didn’t attempt a free throw in nearly 3 quarters and was scoreless in the second half.

James Harden’s admirer and former Rockets teammate, Patrick Beverley has come to the aid of ‘The Beard’ in these low times. When Harden is being slammed left and right for catastrophic performances and ghosting the playoffs, Beverley seems to think he is still at the top of his game. Patrick Beverley joined Stephen A. Smith and JJ Redick on ESPN’s ‘First Take’ to talk through all the tough decisions ahead for the Philadelphia 76ers in regards to James Harden, as things got heated between JJ and Patrick.

When JJ Reddick was asked whether Harden should be given a max contract by the 76ers, he replied :

“No, They Shouldn’t. I Would Have A Hard Time Paying him $60 Million At Age 37, And I will Mention This A Few Times But We Have These Cameras In The Arena, That Track Everything And His Top Speed Has Been Down Two Miles An Hour The Last Year And A Half. His Blow By Rate Is 25% Less Than Has Houston Years. Maybe Some Of That Is Health, Maybe Some Lingering Issue From The Hamstring. You Had A Game Six Where Was 2-11 And It Is Hard If I’m The ownership Group, If I’m Daryl Morey I Know The Relationship Is There, Having Said That, Pat, James Harden Is Still A Fantastic Player.”

Beverely wasn’t holding back as JJ slandered his ex-teammate. He had some words of his own :

“Max, Super Max, Whatever The Word Is After Super Max. He Is James Harden, He Changed The Game. You Look At The All Tim 3-Pointers, I Believe He Is No.3, He Will Finish Behind Steph Curry At Two. That’s the Person You Give The Super Max, To No Hesitation, If You Hesitate He Will Go Somewhere Else. So, Who Else Do You Get In Place Of Him?”

This is not the first time Beverley has stood up for ‘The Beard’, he believes that there is no one in the league as talented as Harden. On the show ‘NBA Today On ESPN’, Pat Bev said this a couple of days ago:

“You got to let him see it through. As far as money wise, you give the boy whatever he’s asking for. Unfortunately, it might sound kind of crazy, but there’s no one in the league that can kind of do what he does.”

James Harden would be up for a $47 Million player option for the 2022-23 season. His ‘friend’ Daryl Morey has already urged that the Philadelphia 76ers are keen to having Harden’s services with them for as long as they can. Furthermore, earlier there were reports of Brooklyn Nets willing to offer James Harden a four-year $227 million contract extension. Upon which he said he wanted to experience free agency at least once in his career. It remains to be seen what route Harden’s NBA career goes down, but we have witnessed a gradual decline of the Beard, before which he was a mesmerizing player on the court. Will he bounce back next year and prove his haters wrong ? stay tuned !
