There are unlikely comebacks, there are impossible comebacks and then there is the comeback that the Paul George led Clippers pulled against the Detroit Pistons. In Monday night’s game, the Clippers had odds of 2 to 12,873 when they were trailing by 14+ points in the last 3 minutes of the game. There have only been two previous occasions where a team trailed by 14 or more points with three minutes left in the game and ended up winning since the play-by-play era began (1996-97).

With the help of Paul George‘s 32 points, the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Detroit Pistons 142-131 in overtime after overcoming a 14-point deficit in the final 3:34 of regulation. When the Clippers fell behind 126-112, coach Tyronn Lue withdrew his starters, but a lineup consisting of Luke Kennard, Terance Mann, Amir Coffey, Nicolas Batum and Moses Brown went on a 16-2 run to end the fourth quarter. With five seconds left in the normal time, Mann made a tying jump shot.

Tyronn Lue congratulated his players for their valiant efforts, he said, “You have to give those guys credit for staying ready. They came out and played with some urgency. Amir and Moses hadn’t played in the game, so for them to come in and produce like the way they did was huge.”

Luke Kennard contributed 18 points and 5 rebounds. Seven Clippers players scored in double figures despite the team being without All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard. The Clippers have now defeated Detroit eight times in a row.

The Raptors will be in action for the first time following their 118-107 victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday to cap a 2-1 road trip.
