Despite being one of the most talented players in the NBA, Paul George also finds himself regularly at the end of criticism. The 33-year-old only recently was posterized by LA Lakers’s LeBron James.
However, staying true to the trend, the Los Angeles Clippers superstar recently responded to critics in emphatic style. Paul George‘s performance against the 2nd-ranked Western Conference team Oklahoma City Thunder was a vintage PG performance.
George was under fire for his showing against the Minnesota Timberwolves two nights back. He responded by taking charge of the 4th quarter after the Thunder took the lead back. In one sequence, he took a three-point shot with the shot clock winding down, all while a defender had his hand in George’s face. He then poked the ball out of Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander‘s hands, drove down the court, and finished with a dunk.
George finished the game with a season-high 38 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. More importantly, he scored 11 of the Clippers’ 14 points to close the game. His elite defense along with the highly efficient scoring brought the Clippers their 9th win from their last 11 games.
The Clippers did not need their other superstars to contribute hefty numbers after George took over the game. However, all three of their other superstars, Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook contributed in double-digits.
Paul George and the Los Angeles Clippers are heading up
Since posting a 5-9 record in November and looking outside the Playoff bracket, the Clippers have turned their season around. Lineup and gameplan changes from head coach Ty Lue changed the way the Clippers attacked each game. They are 18-4 since then.
The ability of their four superstars to take over a game has given the Clippers a lot of options. They have taken turns to win games. However, George was under most criticism for not showing up at his explosive best.
This game should remind his critics about his ability. When George dominates, he dominates both ends of the floor. If he keeps playing like this, the Clippers only have the sky as their limit.
