Lakers News: Phil Jackson wants to trade LeBron James, keep Russell Westbrook
Phil Jackson and LeBron James
With the build-up to the 2022-23 season already underway, it seems like Phil Jackson will be playing a huge role for the Los Angeles Lakers in the upcoming off season. And the rumor mill has just got us upon stating that the veteran coach wants 37-year-old, 4x NBA Finals MVP out. But is willing to keep Mr. Triple Double, Russell Westbrook in the roster for the better of the team.
Involved in team’s coaching hunt alongside owner Jeanie Buss, Phil Jackson could perhaps hold a strong power which might result in King James walking out of the franchise ahead of the 2022-23 season. According to Bill Plaschke of LA Times, Jackson wants to build the team around Russell Westbrook, as he feels that the explosive guard can bring a lot of benefit to the organization.

Why does Phil Jackson want LeBron James out?
“I’ve heard that Phil Jackson would like LeBron James traded. I’ve just heard that but I’ve got nothing to back that up. No on-the-record stuff to back that up. I do know that Phil would like to keep Westbrook and try to make that work with him,” Plaschke said during his latest appearance on the Doug Gottlieb radio show, per SB Nation.
Now as Plaschke noted, he has no substantial proof that the claim is true and is just merely throwing out there what he has heard from his Lakers sources. However, it is worth noting that the LA Times reporter is a veteran columnist and is well-known in the Los Angeles area. And in the past has made some ravishing revelations in and around the franchise and especially their movements in the off-season.
To those who do not know, LeBron James’ current contract ensures his services in Hollywood only until the end of 2022-23 season. But with Jeanie Buss already coming out to state that King James is going to play a huge role in turning the fortunes of the team in the upcoming season, as a result of which she wants him to be happy on all levels, showcases the important of the 37-year-old veteran forward.
That being said, Phil Jackson and LeBron James do have a reported beef that dates back to 2016 and King James himself had been on the record saying he has no relationship with him or whatsoever.
