Rajon Rondo and LeBron James
The 2023 Playoffs are bringing the NBA world to the edge in anticipation. High stakes at the final stage of the season have roughened predictions amongst NBA’s bigwigs. Recently, 2-time NBA champion Rajon Rondo went fearless while picking his West favorites.
During a recent appearance on ESPN’s First Take, Rajon Rondo expressed his opinions regarding this year’s NBA Playoffs. He predicted that the Western Conference Finals would feature two teams that he previously played for; the Los Angeles Lakers and the LA Clippers. Rondo believes that both teams possess the necessary qualities to reach the conference finals.
Rondo stated that the Clippers have what it takes to get the job done. He specifically cited the team’s point guard, Russell Westbrook, as a key player who has stepped up his game in recent times. Rondo believes that the Clippers and Lakers could potentially face each other in the Western Conference Finals, bringing LA fans an exciting matchup.
Rondo’s prediction may come true as both teams hold their ground prior to the playoffs. The Lakers, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis, are considered one of the top teams in the league, considering their primary trade deals recently. However, injuries have plagued the Lakers this season, and their playoff hopes may depend on the availability of their star players.
“I think [the Clippers] can get it done. [Russell Westbrook] has a lot to prove. I’m looking at Russ, he’s stepped up big… That can arguably be a Western Conference Finals matchup [vs. the Lakers].”
Rondo acknowledged that there are other potential contenders in the Western Conference, including the Phoenix Suns and Memphis Grizzlies. Despite the heavy competition in the West, the veteran has picked his odds – the LA franchises.
Lakers Have a Great Chance of Winning, Claims Rondo

Rajon Rondo also discussed the Lakers’ chances of winning the NBA championship this year with the prerequisite of a healthy squad.
The Lakers will face the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs. In addition, followed by a potential matchup with the Golden State Warriors in the second round. While these teams pose a challenge, Rondo is confident that the Lakers can overcome them.
“If they are healthy, I don’t go against my man LeBron or AD [Anthony Davis]. Those two guys in a seven-game series are going to be tough to beat,” Rondo said. “It won’t be easy, but they do have a great chance of winning.”
The Lakers finished the regular season with a record of 43-39, earning them the seventh seed in the Western Conference. While those numbers may not be ideal, Rondo reiterated Lakers’ ability to make another deep playoff run.
