REPORT: Los Angeles Lakers’ front-office has been told to not trade team’s picks

The news of whether the Los Angeles Lakers would make a trade this season or not has been circling around for a long time. The anticipation that whether the Lakers would trade their 2027 and 2029 first-round picks has dominated most of the trade talks. However, the news coming from the Lakers camp might not be a good one for LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

According to a recent report by Howard Beck, who has heard rumblings around Lakers‘ being unwilling to trade the picks. The trade possibility is almost nil for the Lake show and there are no signs of improvement yet with a couple of offers made in the past. “And I’ve heard rumblings — and they’re only rumblings, so I don’t want people to go too far with this or go crazy with the aggregation,” said Howard

Beck also said that the Lakers are determined not to trade the draft picks at any cost. ”They obviously are not willing to trade the picks…that the front office has essentially been told not to trade the picks. That they’re guarding those,” Howard said. It was also reported earlier that the Lakers denied a few trades which were good and could have helped them this season because both the draft picks were demanded in the trade.

Right now if anything the Lakers need, it’s either a few of the defensive mindset players or a certified scorer who could take care of the offense in absence of James and Davis. If the Lakers do not provide help to LeBron and Anthony Davis this season with a better scorer, the season might end just like the previous one.

How far can LeBron James and Anthony Davis take Los Angeles Lakers this season?

Anthony Davis & LeBron James

Perhaps after the latest news of the Lakers’ unwillingness to make any move to improve their roster this season, the time might be right for LeBron and Davis to tighten their lace. The decision is not completely wrong if taken from a future perspective. Now the question arises, with Davis and James, what is the ceiling for the Lakers this season?

So far what Davis and LeBron have put on the court, the hope of them making the playoffs doesn’t seem too unrealistic. With the duo playing together, Lakers can definitely be one of the finest teams in the league. Before Davis got injured against the Denver Nuggets, they went on for a 2-9 run.

However, it would be wise to keep in mind that LeBron is 38 and Anthony has been injury prone for 3 years now. LeBron can not risk playing 30+ minutes in consecutive games, that would get him tired during the playoff (if they make it). Since winning the championship in 2020, Davis has been out of the roster for the most part due to injuries. He is out indefinitely again with the foot injury. So, the chances of them going deep into the playoffs are very less.
