“Avoid Russ, shooting and defense improved” Shannon Sharpe urges Lakers to chase Buddy Hield and Myles Turner’s rumored trade

Shannon Sharp talks about the Lakers trading Russell Westbrook for Buddy Hield and Myles Turner
Los Angeles Lakers are striving for quality players around LeBron James and Anthony Davis to overcome the 2022 season’s misery. They already made a change in coaching staff and looking to add some fresh and young legs to have a better 2023 season. Los Angeles Lakers tried adding a megastar Russell Westbrook in last summer’s trade window, but things didn’t pan out as expected. So they are once again making a huge overhaul in their roster. The Lakers tried to make Kyrie Irving their next marquee player, but the Brooklyn Nets’ demands and now change of stance might halt their advances. Unfortunately for LA Lakers fans, however, it looks like Irving is staying with the Nets.

With Irving out of the picture, the Lakers look to be stuck with Russell Westbrook. His heavy contract situation made him more of an untradeable player. After last season’s performances, Brodie left little options in front of the organization but to trade him. So they have chalked out yet another trade possibility, this time with Indiana Pacers for their star duo Buddy Hield and Myles Turner.
“Now that you know Kyrie is no longer an option … can you go get Buddy Hield and Myles Turner?”
The Lakers recently traded for guard Patrick Beverley, a player who can play more of a defensive guard role, and plays well in the mold. Though this was not a ‘mega’ trade as far as the Lakers are concerned, it surely is a very versatile and valuable addition to the roster. And adding Hield and Turner from the Indiana Pacers could even strengthen their chances of making a deep run in the 2023 postseason.
Sharpe argued that the Lakers would use Russell’s expiring contract and his status as the “triple-double king” to bait Indiana. Former NFL champion also explained that the situation is not impossible if the Lakers can manage to fit in every piece perfectly. “You don’t just stay, ‘You try to move on.’” Shannon added, “You thought it was going to be one thing, it turned out to be something else, let’s just part ways and be OK with that.”
Can Buddy Hield and Myles Turner upgrade Los Angeles Lakers for the 2023 season?

Los Angeles Lakers faced 3 major issues that defined their 2022 season. They played nearly 50% of their games without their star performers like LeBron James and Anthony Davis hampering their on-court output. Secondly, they were very much poor defensively and allowed far too many points due to tired bodies late into the game. Thirdly Lakers couldn’t get the best out of former MVP Russell Westbrook, who, as said by Shannon sharp is known for his tripe double performances. This actually put Russ in a bad light and was considered to be a misfit for the Lakers team.
So if 17-time champions can manage to land Buddy Hield and Myles Turner, with their limited asset pool, they must part ways with the only tradable chip available at the moment and that is Russell Westbrook. Parting ways with Westbrook may be a step in the right direction. And getting Hield and Turner in the trade would definitely be a step in the right direction.
Hield’s 3-point shooting is what the Lakers expected from Carmelo Anthony last term. While Melo did not succeed in delivering the same, younger Hield has shown that he is very much capable of going around 44% from the range.
Also, Turner is a great young big who would ease the stress off of Anthony Davis. Sharing some minutes with Turner would keep AD fresh and less injury prone. Additionally Tuner has a proven record of efficient rebounding and even shot-blocking. LA fans would be pleased to have both players on the roster while seeing back of Westbrook.
