“We gotta answer for what this idiot has done” Shaquille O’Neal is sick of Kyrie Irving as he voices his displeasure on the antisemitic tweets posted by the Nets’ superstar
Kyrie Irving, Shaquille O'Neal
Shaquille O’Neal was unimpressed with the NBA’s decision to not punish Kyrie Irving. And, he didn’t pull any punches in his judgment of the Brooklyn Nets superstar, who has recently made news for his shady social media antics, including his posting of anti-Semitic tweets.
The Brooklyn Nets played the Chicago Bulls just hours after parting ways with head coach Steve Nash. The game also occurred a few days after Nets star Kyrie Irving promoted an antisemitic film on his Twitter account and then attended a press conference where he disparaged the media for questioning his post. Shaquille O’Neal on Inside The NBA harshly condemned Kyrie for this latest scandal, despite the attempts of many to downplay the significance of this incident by claiming that Irving didn’t mean to be antisemitic.
On TNT’s Inside the NBA on Tuesday, the analysts discussed how Irving tweeted a link to the 2018 antisemitic documentary in a post that has since been deleted. Out of them, Shaquille O’Neal seemed to be more upset than anyone and he stated: “I can tell that he is not conscious and that he doesn’t care what’s going on.” He also added: “It hurts me sometimes when we have to sit up here to talk about stuff that divides the game. That we gotta answer for what this idiot has done.”
Kyrie Irving’s antisemitic promotion on Twitter
When he tweeted a link to the 2018 documentary “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America,” which depicts antisemitic messages and is based on a book of the same name, Kyrie Irving’s shady behaviors and attitude tried to continue last Friday. The antisemitic subtext of the book and movie has drawn criticism from some areas, and the movie appears to have been made expressly for Kyrie because he has always been a controversial figure.
Nets owner Joe Tsai expressed his displeasure with point guard Kyrie Irving’s promotion of the movie with such harsh antisemitic ideas when Irving shared the 2018 movie on Twitter, which received extensive media attention. Among the numerous people who opposed Irving’s Twitter tweet, the NBA and the Anti-Defamation League both expressed their disapproval with Irving’s promotion of the documentary. As a result of Irving’s support for the documentary, he quickly came under fire; nevertheless, he has since taken it down and received no repercussions for his actions.

Shaquille O’Neal had Charles Barkley’s support too for criticizing Kyrie
Shaquille O’Neal and TNT pundit Charles Barkley both criticized Irving for his antisemitic tone, accusing him of being an idiot. They made similar public statements where Barkley stated: “I think the NBA dropped the ball. I think he should have been suspended. I think Adam should have suspended him.” When two NBA legends express such strong thoughts, the NBA may continue investigating Irving and consider suspending him for one or more games. As Irving comes under more and more attention, it is unclear whether Commissioner Silver will act.
Irving later clarified on Twitter that he is not antisemitic and that the remark is inaccurately describing him. He also added that he wants to learn from individuals of all ages and religions. Irving, a controversial NBA player in recent years, claimed that the antisemitism of the video didn’t matter after dismissing the idea that posting videos to his social media accounts constituted promoting those videos.
