Phil Jackson is arguably the best coach in the history of the league. He has proven himself multiple times with different teams, winning 11 championships in his career.Jackson won six championships with Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls. He also won five titles with two different eras of the Los Angeles Lakers. He three-peated with the Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal Lakers and won two consecutive championships with the Kobe-led Lakers in 2009 and 2010.
It is fair to say that he is one of the greatest basketball figures of all time, right up there with Pat Riley. Shaq, who played under Jackson for five seasons, compared Colorado Buffaloes coach and college football sensation Deion Sanders to him. Coming from Shaq, it’s high praise for Deion, who has led his team to a 3-0 start to their season.
In a recent interview with Michael J. Babcock of TMZ, Shaq compared Deion to his former legendary coach, praising his leadership skills. He helped Colorado come back from a double-digit deficit against their arch-rivals, the Colorado State Rams. Shaq said, “When they were down by 15, there was a camera that panned to Deion’s face, and it reminded me of Phil Jackson. And I’ve always said, if the general doesn’t panic, the troops don’t panic.”
How Deion Sanders led the Colorado Buffaloes to their epic comeback?
The Colorado Buffaloes looked beaten at the start of the fourth quarter as they were down by 11 points entering the fourth. They had lost their cornerback, Travis Hunter, at halftime after he was hit by Henry Blackburn of Colorado State. Deion rallied the team, and they looked like they had new life.
Deion drew up a play that allowed their star quarterback and Deion’s son, Shedeur Sanders, to make a 98-yard scoring drive. It was followed up by a two-point conversion that took the game into overtime. In overtime, they made easy work of winning the game 43-35 in double overtime. Deion was not satisfied with his team’s performance and said they were playing like garbage. This showed that he isn’t just satisfied with a win; he wants to dominate.
