Shaquille O’Neal once attempted to see Barack Obama in Washington to give a present to the former President but was turned away by security. However, he later received a phone call from Obama himself and when Shaq asked Obama how he acquired his number, he responded with a hilarious reply.

Shaquille O’Neal joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 1996, a group that would go on to become well-known in his renowned era. The Lakers with Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal won three consecutive NBA championships from 2000 to 2003. The Heat and Lakers decided to retire O’Neal’s number after he made a comeback and helped the Miami Heat in capturing their first NBA title in the 2006 NBA Finals. With 15 All-Star appearances, he shares fourth place on the NBA’s all-time selections list. He was chosen for the NBA’s 50th and 75th anniversary teams after a stellar career that ended in 2011 and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

Barack Obama’s swag on Shaq as the President
Shaquille O’Neal recently shared about an interaction with former President Barack Obama on Complex’s Sneaker Shopping video. Shaq related how he attempted to give him his shoes in person but was unable to do so due to current security concerns. Instead of Shaq exploiting his “powers,” Obama got in touch with him. When the president called him, O’Neal was stunned and even questioned the reason for the call and Obama’s response was epic. Shaq narrates the incident stating: “I get a phone call from a strange number. I say ‘hello’? It’s the president. I said ‘Mr. Obama, how’d you get my number?’. He said ‘Come on, Shaq, I’m the President’.”
Even though Shaq ultimately met the former president, it wasn’t due of the power or influence he was able to exert. It was evident that Shaq had the former president’s attention. Whatever the case, Shaq’s story to the world was really entertaining. The former NBA star was most likely not anticipating that call, and now that the former POTUS is not surrounded by security, Obama would enjoy discussing basketball with O’Neal. Shaq discovered with Mr. Obama that the world may operate in a peculiar manner at times.
