The legendary Golden State Warriors point guard, Steph Curry, is expected to continue to stun basketball fans with his incredible feats in the 2023–24 NBA season. At 35, Curry shows that traits like skill, dexterity, and leadership are merely relative.

This season, Curry has scored an average of 30.7 points, rebounded 4.6 times, and passed 3.9 times. His incredible play has earned him multiple awards, one that includes being named Western Conference Player of the Week, showing how much he influences his teammates when in action.

However, there is one alarming team statistic that rises amidst Curry’s brilliance. No one from the Golden State Warriors has scored more than 16 points per game this season other than Curry. Individually, he tops the NBA with his 11 achievements. It shows that the team is highly dependent on Curry’s ability to create, and this figure is an indicator of how many points he can produce himself.

However, the supporting cast of the Warriors has not provided reliable offensive support. The bench players have been mediocre. Draymond Green, Chris Paul, Andrew Wiggins, and Klay Thompson are a good lineup alongside Curry. Hence, it’s disappointing that none of these players(except for Steph) have performed well.

Warriors’ offensive woes: Decline in supporting players’ performance, raises concerns despite Steph Curry’s heroics

The supporting cast has been woeful. Andrew Wiggins, formerly an All-Star in the league, averages just 10.5 points a game, down from 19 points on average from the last season. Paul and Thompson have managed to score an abysmal 41 percent beyond the arc this season. With a 44.8 field goal % overall, the team is in the bottom five of the NBA, suggesting a more widespread offensive inefficiency.

In a sense, Curry has been shouldering a lot of the scoring for the Warriors’ six wins this season. He has averaged an astonishing 32 points a game. This over-reliance on Steph’s scoring highlights a worrying trend, for the Warriors. To consistently win, the guard has to keep putting up excellent performances.

He is putting up incredible numbers and is cementing a place among the legends. The supporting cast must increase its offensive production to achieve a fairer and prolonged approach across the season.
