“You have to embrace that you’re so great,” Skip Bayless calls out Kevin Durant for avoiding being in a race with Michael Jordan and LeBron James

“You have to embrace that you’re so great,” Skip Bayless calls out Kevin Durant for avoiding being in a race with Michael Jordan and LeBron James

Kevin Durant and Skip Bayless

Skip Bayless has long considered Kevin Durant to be the best player in the league, particularly after he won his 1st championship with the Golden State Warriors. However, as great as Durant is, and as often as people like to put him in conversation, KD doesn’t like comparisons. Despite Bayless, crowning him as the best player on the planet, the former champion is openly critical of Bayless.

In a recent conversation with the Washington Post, The Brooklyn Nets said that as a player and a lover of the basketball game, he just wants to hoop. Durant said that he doesn’t like being in the GOAT conversation and doesn’t “give a s— about that.” He also added that he just wants to hoop and the day he feels like he is not enjoying playing basketball, he will hang his shoes.

Clearly, for someone like Skip, it must be disappointing to hear his favorite player speak something of that measure. Commenting on Durant’s interview Skip said that the former MVP was speaking as if he had retirement plans in his head. “KD is speaking like he has retirement thoughts but likes to play basketball and hoop. You have to embrace that you’re so great. He likes to play out of the spotlight,” said Bayless.

Kevin Durant says he doesn’t care about the GOAT conversation

The GOAT conversation in the league and among the fans has become heated since LeBron James won his 3rd championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers. For many, an impossible win against the Warriors (73-9) and down 3-1 in the Finals made LeBron the greatest ever. Since then LeBron-Jordan debate has largely overshadowed the legacies of many NBA greats.

Durant is a generational talent and is considered by many as a top 10 player in NBA history. After winning 2 championships with the Warriors, the Brooklyn Nets star definitely solidified his name among the greats. But when Durant was asked about the GOAT discussion, he wanted an antithetical narrative to define him. He wanted to be remembered for his actions on the court and his skills on the basketball court. “I don’t give a s— about that (LeBron vs Jordan). I want to wake up every day and do what I do,” Durant said.

After starting the season on a slow note and the controversy that surrounded the Nets for a month-long time, the Brooklyn Nets are clicking. Once at number 12 in the Eastern Conference, the Nets have improved their record exponentially and are in 4th spot in the conference. Durant is playing excellent basketball and is averaging over 30 points in the season so far.
