“That guy is not a victim” Skip Bayless calls out Russell Westbrook while addressing newly formed ‘VILLAIN’ image

“That guy is not a victim” Skip Bayless calls out Russell Westbrook while addressing newly formed ‘VILLAIN’ image

Skip Bayless, Russell Westbrook

Despite being one of the best players of the previous ten years, LA Lakers point guard Russell Westbrook earned the moniker “Westbrick” due to his subpar shooting. Westbrook made a name for himself as one of the most despised point guards in basketball during the 2021–22 season. On his podcast, Skip Bayless recently discussed the issue. Along with his poor performance on the court, he also retaliated against anyone who dared to criticise him, including former head coach Frank Vogel and media.

Westbrook is coming off one of his worst seasons after experiencing a bumpy couple years following his trade from the OKC Thunder. Westbrook was unable to lift the Los Angeles Lakers, who were led by LeBron James, to victory. He has been in a heated Twitter spat with Bayless, who created the infamous nickname years ago. On Thursday, Bayless discussed his disagreements with Russ and provided his most recent assessment of the former MVP.

Russell Westbrook’s unproductive season at Los Angeles

When the Los Angeles Lakers traded for Russell Westbrook last summer, they surprised the NBA. The next year was the team’s and maybe the NBA’s worst ever season. In the 2021–22 season, Westbrook shot 44.4 percent from the field and 29.8 percent from outside the arc for averages of 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists. The former MVP occasionally struggled to adapt to L.A.’s approach since he and James are both ball-dominant players. The Lakers traded their first-round pick in 2022 for Westbrook, in addition to giving up Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Montrezl Harrell. As a result, they were eliminated from the playoffs and were unable to enter the play-in competition.

Over the course of his 14-year career, Russell Westbrook has established himself as one of the best in the NBA at attacking in the open court, getting to the basket, finishing, and finding the open guy. This season, Westbrook wasn’t really an MVP-caliber player, whether it was because of ageing, roster instability brought on by injuries, or a confidence problem. As one of the finest players in league history and his generation, as a first-ballot HOF inductee, he will be remembered. He will also be recognised for having a greatly limited career due to his attitude. Success for the Lakers in the future season will rely on how the new head coach executes his plans after this year’s disastrous campaign.

Skip Bayless slams Westbrook over and over again

The nickname “Westbrick” returned in full force amid his worst performances of the season. Nevertheless, Westbrook disapproves of the nickname and is angry with others who continue to use it, including Bayless. Bayless discussed the title on “The Skip Bayless Show.” He said that the moniker had been used before him stating: “This time, I’m not gonna let Russell Westbrook turn Russ back into a victim and me back into a villain… I don’t care who’s on my side as long as I am speaking the truth.” He continued: “The term ‘Westbrick’ it isn’t a personal shot. It’s not a cheap shot of any kind, and it’s not an insult, and it’s not a slur”.

Bayless has never been one to hold back, and he appears especially keen to criticise Russell Westbrook for his flaws on the floor when it comes to that player. Russ has already cautioned Skip to evaluate himself and the words he adopts when criticising his game. He has the opportunity to make redemption for his terrible performance in the 2021–22 season during the upcoming season. Additionally, he has the opportunity to prove his haters and mainly Skip Bayless, wrong.
