Kevin Durant is having a tough time with the Brooklyn Nets this season. With Kyrie Irving out and Ben Simmons looking hardly like the player when he was in Philadelphia, the former Stephen Curry‘s teammate Durant is stuck in a no-help land. Although he has been averaging well over 30 points this season, it has not been enough for the Nets’ to get over the hump.
Kevin’s former team and defending champions Golden State Warriors have found themselves in a similar situation. Except for Stephen Curry, hardly any player on the roster has performed to the expectations. Jordan Poole seems to have lost his rhythm, Klay Thompson is yet to find his old self, and the young core is hardly performing. According to Smith, the Warriors had trust in their young core and their lineup. Smith said, “In their eyes, they didn’t come into the season aiming to rebuild”, he added, They expected Klay to be better, they expected Wiseman to be ready…Moody to be ready.”
According to Stephen A. Smith if the Warriors do not believe in their young core anymore it is high time for the Warriors to make the trade for Kevin Durant. “Go ahead and make the trade for Kevin Durant,” suggested Stephen A. Smith. Even before this, Smith has publicly said that the Warriors need to make the trade for Kevin Durant.
Stephen A. Smith was among the people who strongly believed in the Warriors to repeat their championship run this season. Perhaps the Warriors’ loss is also giving him second thoughts. As he said about the Warriors, “If you don’t believe these young brothers can’t be ready to help you repeat, make the move.” Smith added, “you can’t waste Steph Curry playing like this…you can’t waste the greatness of Steph.”

Kevin Durant opens up about trade request and the Nets’ struggle this season

Kevin Durant brought another hailstorm in the media and perhaps for the Nets organization as well, after an interview with TNT’s Chris Haynes. Speaking with Haynes, Durant opened up about the trade request he made this summer in the offseason. When Chris asked Durant if the decision for the trade request was difficult for him, Durant replied, “it wasn’t difficult at all to request a trade because it was about ball”. Durant added that he demanded more closeout drills, practice, and film sessions to improve the chemistry in the team. But according to Kevin, they were not on the same page.
Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets are among the bottom five teams in the league, a position Durant would not be comfortable with. Kevin was clearly disappointed with the team’s performance and highlighted that the current roster is far from winning games. “Look at our starting lineup. Edmond Sumner, Royce O’Neale, Joe Harris, [Nic] Claxton and me. It’s not disrespect, but what are you expecting from that group?” Durant told Haynes. “You expect us to win because I’m out there. So if you’re watching from that lens, you’re expecting us to play well because No. 7 is out there,” he remarked.
Kevin Durant’s remarks about his teammates drew criticism from NBA analysts such as Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless. According to Sharpe, Kevin Durant was at fault for calling out his teammates’ names when he himself was a walking contradiction. Skip Bayless remarked that everything Kevin Durant said in the interview was ‘pathetic.’
