The photo has been viral on the internet for the past week and every one is critical of Jerry Jones but Stephen A. Smith isn’t riding like everyone and has sent out a completely different take which has also landed him in trouble. As he’s getting called out as ‘co*n and sellout’.
The photo viral on the internet has Jerry Jones standing with a group of young white men preventing Black students from integrating at North Little Rock High School, Arkansas in 1957. This has everyone claiming the NFL team owner to be a racist. But Stephen A. Smith being a fan of his has come out to defend him with his reasons and beliefs.
Stephen A. Smith defending the owner related the whole criticism thing with cancel culture and said: “You’re going to bring up a photo of him when he was 14, 15 years old? Sixty-five or sixty-six years ago? This is where cancel culture gets into the mix. You’re making an attempt to eradicate him, what he stands for and all he has done.” He also mentioned how things would be different if Jerry was 30-40 years old and continued ahead with sensible words handing out reasons for his take.
But fans were out with criticism for Stephen A. Smith too. As they didn’t like how he defended Jones. So Bishop Talbert Swan posted a video of dancing raccoons on Twitter while reacting to the take and by doing that he called out Stephen A. Smith as a “co*n”.
As the analyst came out defending Jerry, who has been declared racist by many fans around the globe. This tweet was liked by SAS’s ESPN colleague, Mark Jones. So the analyst recently addressed the whole situation via his podcast trying to clear the unnecessary dirt off his name and express himself.
Stephen A. Smith’s reaction on getting called out as ‘co*n and sellout’
Stephen A. Smith addressing the situation said: “One can only be called a sellout and a c**n and all of this other stuff but so much before you feel compelled to respond. Particularly when you’re a Black man.” Further, he explained how he’s not the dude he’s being portrayed to be even though he has the power and status to run that. As he is a big name with multiple sports shows and a voice that is heard.
Stephen A. Smith then went on to discuss the controversial photo of Jerry Jones from 1957 and called out the lack of free thought amongst the Black community. He also said: “It’s black on black. I don’t even know if white folks need to be listening with the stuff that I’m gonna say about some of us.”
Then the analyst took a shot at his critics and tried to clear the unnecessary dirt off his name. And, while doing so he quoted: “You want to criticize me and what my positions are, I’m good with that. Y’all tell me why.”
Further, Stephen A. Smith added: “If you’re right, I’ll say so. You know how hard it is for me to listen to people that have worked in this industry for years with the stuff I know about them, listening to them and their drivel talking nonsense about me? They ain’t do a damn thing to help our community! I put my career on the line every day fighting for us. And we’re gonna go out like that? Because I don’t agree with y’all position on a still photo from 66 years ago. Really? We better wake up y’all.”
Smith didn’t call out or directly mention Mark Jones here while addressing the situation. As of now, the broadcaster has unliked the tweet but there aren’t any updates regarding any exchange the two ESPN employees have had so far. And, this isn’t the end as Stephen A. like always has welcomed controversies and is sticking with his defensive take.
