“He cannot be trusted,” Stephen A. Smith gets brutally honest on Kyrie Irving’s “IDIOTIC” trade request from the Nets
On Friday, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith expressed his concern with Kyrie Irving's request that the Nets trade him.
Kyrie Irving‘s request for a trade from the Brooklyn Nets yesterday stunned the whole NBA community. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Irving won’t re-sign with Brooklyn when he becomes a free agent after the 2022–23 season if he is not traded.
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith was not pleased with the eight-time All-stars decision. “Idiotic,” Smith told ESPN’s Malika Andrews on NBA Today. “All it [Irving’s request] did was serve to remind everybody out there that he’s spectacular, we’d love to have him in our uniform, so long as we don’t have to make a long-term investment in him because he can not be trusted.”
In a different appearance on The Michael Kay Show, Stephen A. addressed this issue and criticized Nets owner Joseph Tsai for giving Irving such a dominant presence.“Joe Tsai gave them the franchise and look at the mess it has caused,” Smith said.
The Nets had assembled a team that included James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving that was meant to be a dynasty. That failed because Kyrie hasn’t played a full season with the team since entering three years ago, and Harden already asked for a trade to the Philadelphia 76ers last year.

Following Kyrie Irving’s trade request, Kevin Durant is attracting “far more interest” for the Nets
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, other teams in the NBA are much more interested in the availability of Brooklyn superstar Kevin Durant than they are in Kyrie Irving’s request for a trade from the Nets. Irving’s impending departure might lead to Durant leaving Brooklyn as well.
At the moment, it’s unknown how Durant feels about his situation, but after asking Brooklyn for a trade last summer, there’s a chance he’ll do it again. Durant mentioned the Phoenix Suns and the Miami Heat as his top trade targets when he asked the Nets for a trade this past offseason.
Durant is in the first year of a four-year, $198 million contract deal that he signed in 2021, organisations will have to think about how to make a place for him if he becomes available. Durant could be the last piece from the Big Three to fall in Brooklyn, and if so, the trade deadline on February 9 is going to be complete entertainment for the NBA fans.
