Kyrie Irving, who is known for standing tall for his homies, recently took to instagram to defend his lifelong homie, Russell WestBrook. He said, “Let’s not pretend this dude right here didn’t revolutionize the game and inspire all of us to do things YOUR way and say F**k em ALL.” But, all of the Basketball community is not happy with his admissions, specifically the hot-take machine Stephen A. Smith.

Here is what he had to say about Russell Westbrook, pointing to his inability to win a chapionship, “You don’t have a ring after having those teammates, that is not good.” Even though Smith praised Westbrook for the amount of effort that he puts in the game and even called him the “the most athletic point guard in the history of Basketball”, there’s still no denying that he hasn’t won a championship, which often puts even the greatest of players down the ladder.

Smith’s and Irving’s relationship is not an ideal one. Smith has time and again tried to defame the Mavericks’ point guard, questioning his ability to play and score points. This time too, he tried the same but not pointing fingers at his game but at his opinion. Westbrook is currently signed with the LA Lakers and has in the past, played with the likes of Kevin Durant, James Harden, Paul George, and Kawhi Leonard.

The sour relationship between Kyrie and Stephen A Smith

Over the past few months, there has not been a single month where the NBA community hasn’t witnessed a back-and-forth between the two. Smith has regularly criticized Irving for continuously missing games due to injuries. He has alleged Irving of not being able to win without LeBron as he said, “he hasn’t proven he can win without LeBron. The proof isn’t there that he could win without LeBron and it’s going to stay that way until he wins without LeBron”

Moreover, once taking a jibe at his exorbitant salary, Smith once said that Irving should “quit basketball” if he cannot take the heat associated with the game. Once back in 2021, the two locked horns when Smith said that Irving needs to “show up to work” instead of getting injured after every game he plays and earn the money that he is receiving. This incident led to a heated back and forth between the two.

There have been bigger and spicier comments made by Smith on Irving. It almost seems as if Smith hates Irving from the bottom of his heart. Whether or not this relationship of theirs gets better over time is uncertain. As the NBA season approaches and Smith, the hot-take machine continues to take jibes, controversies will be stirring up. Nonetheless, Irving, Westbrook, and Smith will be ready for the spiciness, both on and off the court.
