The Golden State Warriors are not having the best season so far and it’s quite apparent that the head coach is not happy with Stephen Curry and Co. Dubs lost to Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets playing without Kevin Durant, after giving up a massive lead. Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr did not hold back his harsh words about his team and said that his team wasn’t good enough to close the games at the last minute.

Giving his opinion on the loss, Kerr said that his team has got to perform better. As reported by ESPN’s reporter for Warriors Kendra Andrews, the head coach said that his team lapses after getting close to the win. “We’re 23-24 for a reason. We’re not good enough to close games. We’ve got to get better. We make strides and it feels like we’re getting close and then we have a lapse,” Kerr shared, per Andrews. Kerr had his assessment for the Warriors’ entire season. Golden State had as much as 17 points lead in the game, but they collapsed under the Nets’ constant daggers from Kyrie Irving and Co.

Royce O’Neale has been a surprising late-game factor in Brooklyn’s good fate. The Warriors went ahead 106-93 in the 4th quarter with a jumper from Klay Thompson. Since then, the Nets went 27-10 in the quarter. Later in the game, O’Neale hit a three-point dagger with 28.5 seconds left giving Brooklyn the 118-116 lead. Perhaps, Royce’s shot added even more pressure on Curry and the Dubs.

Can Stephen Curry and the Warriors repeat their championship run this season?

Stephen Curry

It was not clear from Steve Kerr’s statement, what he plans to do with the continuous slump of Curry and his co-stars. With the way they are playing, it is highly unlikely that they are even ready to get out of the Western Conference with their current 23-24 record. There are other teams in the NBA which has better offense and defense than the Warriors. Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics are far better when compared to the defending champions. In the West, Memphis Grizzlies, Denver Nuggets, and Los Angeles Clippers would have an edge over them on both ends.

Even before the season started, the Warriors had the most incredible bench depth among the 30 teams in the league. Moreover, the young core that they retained after trading some assets was also the most talented lineup in the league. However, as surprising as it may look, their depth has suffered after losing players like Gary Payton II, who gave them second chances and a better transition defense on the court. It remains to be seen what the front office in California does about the trades. Irrespective of Stephen Curry’s excellent season, the Warriors have to make a move to remain valid.
