The Chicago Bulls are ready for WAR, DeRozan, LaVine shine as Vucevic and Williams step up
Chicago Bulls
Despite having a losing record, the Chicago Bulls went on a 3-game winning streak against the Jazz, 76ers, and Nets. While they may seem to be struggling, the Bulls are looking confident and ready to dominate. While DeMar DeRozan’s performance in the past few games may be an obvious reason, there’s more to their rise than meets the eye. Although DeRozan seemed to have a slow scoring night with only 12 points against the Sixers, the All-Star did not have any trouble making plays or grabbing boards as he ended the match with 5 rebounds and 6 assists, also racking up a steal and a block in his 37 minutes on the floor.
Going up against the promising Jazz, this game saw an 8-point Chicago Bulls win with DeRozan continuing his mid-ranged mastery, stacking up an impressive 35 points on a very efficient 59% shooting. He not only scored, but also set his teammates up with 7 assists. Despite being known as a score-first player, DeMar is not only averaging 26.4 PPG on an incredible 50.4% accuracy, but has also been hustling for rebounds with 5.1 RPG and being a better playmaker with 5 APG as well. The game against the star-studded Nets ended in a Bulls victory, with the star Small Forward having 22 points, and 7 rebounds with 3 rebounds, a steal and a block.
Another reason behind the Bulls’ win streak is their second All-Star – Zach LaVine. Although having signed a 5-yr $215 Million max contract with the Bulls, the team will look to string a few wins before the trade deadline to keep him on the roster despite the various trade rumors. LaVine is exactly the second star that the Bulls needed, and he has been showing that he’s ready to keep performing at an All-Star level, as he had an excellent game against the Sixers ending the game with 41 points on a blistering 73% accuracy with 33 points coming off only 3 pointers made. LaVine paired with Vucevic form a deadly pick-and-roll combo, with a lot of plays leaving Vucevic completely open and ready to score. When the Bulls needed a third player to step up, following Lonzo Ball’s injury, Vucevic is having consistent scoring and rebounding nights.
Despite struggling the past two seasons, Patrick Williams seems to have picked his performance up in the season so far, having an amazing game against the Brooklyn Nets, ending the game with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Known for his disruption on the defensive end of the floor, the young Williams has a lot to look ahead to, if he can maintain his current offensive consistency and improve on his 3-point shot.
The Chicago Bulls are ready for whatever’s next for them
Fresh off a 3-game win streak, the Bulls will look forward to continuing their form against the top-seeded Celtics. The team proved that they are more than capable of holding their own against some of the top teams in the East, with wins against both the Nets and the Sixers. Although the Bulls are currently missing their star Point Guard Lonzo Ball, they still showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with. DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic have been consistently playing well, with an improved Patrick Williams.
If Williams stays consistent offensively, while also providing his lockdown defense, the Bulls will be a very scary team to play against. With LaVine and Vooch building a deadly pick-and-pop threat, teams will have another threat to watch out for. If the Chicago Bulls keep Lonzo Ball, amongst trade rumors, the team will have a very strong defensive core with Alex Caruso, Patrick Williams, Ayo Dosunmu, and Andre Drummond.
